So is everyone ready for what appears to be another round of stupidy high prices?

According to experts, crude oil will continue to rise, Funny that the Aussie Dollar is still pretty much parity with the US dollar, and a barrel of Crude is USD$91 and Petrol Prices are extremely high.

Oh and they are also blaming the lack of ethanol manufacturing due to QLD floods a reason for the high Petrol Prices here in Australia. Consider this, Australi manufactures alot of crude oil, yet, we export it over seas.....

Yeah i think its down right stupid, Australia needs to bring in some sort of regulation to control the prices of fuel so the stations dont go stupid and make it whatever price they want i mean i'm paying like $1.50 for 98 atm and i know i'm not getting the amount i pay for to but thats another topic ;)

even if there wasnt a shortage of ethanol they would still use the floods as an excuse to put up prices.

Think you'll find that the stations don't actually make much on the petrol they sell nowadays. I remember reading somewhere that they make most of their money on all of the other shit they sell and the petrol money just keeps the business ticking along.

I just think that

Aussie dollar is strong
US per barrel is not enormous , sure its not $40USD a barrel but after I did some research, something like 15cents P/L above the same sorts of figures going back a few years.. We refine alot of Crude oil here (Its imported as apparently the oil mined here in Australia is to fine for use in fuels).

So if we base that if there is another flood and/or draught and our reliance on ethanol based fuels is greater and there is no rubbish refinery to create ethanol from day to day garbage waste, then, fuel prices will sky rocket!

I just have a feeling that these oil companies have monopolised the world and are charging a serious amount above what they should be.
Oh and the governments Fuel Excise + GST (38.14cents p/l + 10% GST) Just in tax. So @ $1.50 you pay 13.5cent p/l in GST, and 38.14cents p/l in excise. That is 98cent p/l for the actual fuel, minus the shops margins on that which i don't know, But lets say its 10cents p/l. There maybe import duties on the fuel aswell which, is the same rate as the excise :S

Though, Ethanol they are saying that they are bringing down the excise tax from the current 23cents p/l to 12.5cent p/l

Fuel Excise Reform.

well known fact any time theres a natural disaster of some kind anywhere in the 1st world they jam prices up due to the ripple effect.

Just get a motorbike as a daily. At 2L/100km fuel consumption, im happy to fill up with jet fuel haha!!

that only works on how you hard you ride the bike and gearing!

How easy was it to get your licence etc Alex?

in qld its a 5 question common sense exam and the practical is a easy pass if u know how to do the basic on a bike, even if u fall they still pass you lol

tho buying bike + bike gear ends up same as buying a car <_< but well worth it in the end... of parking anywhere and no traffic and aircon 24/7 B)

Deano, its easy as. Just book a full day test at Armstrongs in Thomo (right opposite Thomo gym haha) and you'll be right. The hardest thing is doing th written test (30 multiple choice questions). They're very similar to the questions you get asked on the computer when doing your car lincence.

So i thought I would doa quick calculation.

Victoria Average Petrol Price is $1.31 (Rounded up from 30.9) with a peak of $1.39
US average appears to be $3.10 Per Gallon (3.78L) with a peak of $3.37 Per Gallon

So if the aussie dollar is pretty much on par, The US is paying around 82cents Per Litre - 89cents per litre (Even if i add 10% they are 90.2cent pl - 97.9cent p/l)

Hrmmmm..

Though England is paying 128.38Pence and i believe that is per litre... (That would work out to be $1.86 AUD per litre) BUt there tax is WAY up there... VAT + Excise makes up 80pence per litre.. WOW!

yeah well like a few guys said we refine alot of fuel here in australia, i myself live in geelong and we have a shell refinery just up the road so i dont see why it shoud be so expensive go back 10-15 years when it was about $ 80 a barrel we were paying 80-90c litre, not quite sure how that works out, inflation?

Isn't our rego cheap in co
Parison to alot of places. The red of what we should pay on rego comes from our petrol levies or whatever. That way if ur on the road more u wear put the toad more. If ur on the road less u don't do as much damage. Having the tax on fuel means u pay for what u use instead of someone who drives once a week still having to pay $5000 a year on rego. I hope that makes sence.

In other words u pay ur $600 rego and the more u drive the more fuel u use so the more tax goes to vic roads form maintenance and speed cameras ect.

Another great excuse of why our fuel price is so high is that the crude has to come further to get to Australia.......

But I really dont see how if its coming from Southern Asia or the Middle East...... <_<
