I just wanted to hear peoples opinions on this, its a topic that is really starting to infuriate me - especially with this new hotline that has been implemented today.

All it means is all the dickheads in my street are going to dob me in for no real reason.

Not happy.

I heard about the new dial-a-hoon hotline.. and well, I dont think it is up to Joe public to dob in hoons.. I can see this law being seriously abused with people who dont like you, dont like your car, jealous of your car, have lost to you in a race, who assume you are going fast based on your car and how it sounds, over take them because they are doing 50 in a 100 zone and probably the biggest one will be because you have p-plates up.

But again, It will be severely abused by idiots with something against you.

"man that car looks and sounds fast, i bet he is speeding, quick call and dob him in"

yeah its not a fun thing i have a quiet street young bloke up the corner has a nice 180sx but his mates drives skylines an shit an always blast it by my house lettin off showin off as i also have a jap car now its gay when they ring up saying its me because i work on my car heaps always testing an it is loud but its during the day an i hope my neighbours are tolereant if iget done because these clowns like to show off ill be seriuosly pissed...

my mate got a warning letter from the police for driving in an unsociable manner in my street because we were fittin a bov to his supercharger setup an wanted to make sure we had it going right its a bit shit... someone lagged him in wankers

but isnt it like dob a litterer thing.. you need at least 2 or something...

but then you can get a group of mates.. dont know.

Well what a friggen croc of shit this hotline really is.

Lets face it- the $250,000 they're spending on this ridiculous idea is further proof that the state government is so far out of touch with what the real problem is- its not funny anymore!

Especially when legit car enthusiasts are going to be targeted.

Lets face it- boys will be boys. Instead of spending this HUGE waste of cash on people trying to dob others in- why not spend it on trying to get the hoons off the streets???

Yes, I used to have complaints lodged against me because my car was simply too loud...and I wasn't performing any acts of ''hoonism''. They should place a dome over the top of 'conservative do gooders' (arseholes) whom have no life; and to the elderly....put things in perspective; WTF where they doing when they were my age!!!??? The worlds done mad!!! Soon it will be totally wrapped in red tape!!!!

Anyone for tennis...just a couple of sets....?

Its only going to get worse b/c 18 yr old's with ther $40k cars stacking it into polls and writing themselvs off....

The storm is only begining my friends!!!!

I don't think having a legitimate motorsports outlet would help, because really the sort of "hoon" situations are just retards showing off, they don't have any interest in motorsport, just dick waving. It's hard because giving any sort of power to anybody to say "this behaviour is unacceptable" is a bit unfair, ie P platers getting given a choice of a speeding fine or a hoon law confiscation just because a cop is bored....

I don't really see any solution which doesn't paint everyone with the same brush, ie if your lancer has an audible exhaust and you give it a bit of a squirt is seen as the same thing as doing it in a VL and just happening to get some wheel spin... maybe have some sort of intelligence test/psychiatric evaluation before issuing drivers licenses :D

I would think that they would need to provide some sort of evidence to back their claims (video footage, camera image or something!) otherwise you could turn around and do the same to them - then it'd just turn into a big 'you said-i-said scenario.

If people were found to be abusing the hotline to get even with you then I think the penalties would be pretty severe (here's hoping anyway in today's limp-wristed society  )

Their mum and dad should stop insuring those cars for their kids under their names, kick 'em outta home and make 'em spend their $$$ on real world stuff like bills, food and mortages! Then they wouldn't have the spare time, cash or inclination to go fucking around on the roads in expensive toys and making it hard on the rest of us!! In fact mum and dad should be penalized too as far as I'm concerned.

I really believe that to tackle the problem of 'hoons' at the source you need to examine the family environment. Hooning shows a lack of respect and responsibility, why else would you act like a dickhead and endanger people on the streets? Where do you learn respect and responsibility? At home. If dad drives like a wanker and treats others on the road with disrespect - what's his son gonna do when he gets on the road himself?

everyone seems to be crying about these laws, seems melb is taking it pretty hard..
but when use splurge your anger think why you yourself owns a performance car,, to go quick? to get to a speed quick? yes you guys love it as much as the dickheads who choose to do the same thing in the wrong environment.
im not saying your arguments are wrong but in one way or another you are a hoon yourself and dont deny it.

The next cop car I see hooning without its lights on, is going to get dobbed in.

2 can play at this game.

There a time and place everything. All that's needed is a little common sense...or for some people, a lot!

+1 for being sick of it.

THey've passed new and more discriminating laws in nsw now... really sucks.... you get fined and such if you get wheelspin in wet doing hillstarts... try that in a modded fwd... and yeah... good luck...

it's alot out of hand, and i'm always amazed at how many cars are blowing black or blue smoke, rusted, shitty breaks yo uhear screaching every set of lights, lights are faulty, etc. not to mention the idiot drivers out there.... but hey... let's pick on "hoons"... and modified cars... coz they're so dangerous...

we don't claim to be angels, but the point is, is that you don't have to have proof, just a rego and place. At the moment my car is stock, i can flat out belt it to 80k's in a 80 zone and not brake any current standing law, but can still have my car taken off me......forever, how does that work?

In NZ, they have laws against excessive acceleration. Its totally up to the witnessing officer's discretion whether or not to fine. How fucked up is that!
