Long story short, Leading his class in race one at winton, about to enter turn 4, Brand new expensive race motor, only just run in, threw a leg out of bed due to componant failure. Punched a hole threw the evo 8mr block, threw oil all over the turbo, exhaust manifold and coated the underbody of the car. Caught flames and nearly burnt the car to the ground! Most importantly my mate wasn't burnt or injured.

Moral of the story: Carry a fire extinguisher in your car!! it's the only thing that saved this one from being a burnt out wreck!

Gotta love bonnet vents in this situation... by the sounds of it the repair bill dent someones hip pocket...

I wonder what the owner of the red car (rx?) was thinking... he would have had it l in full view...

Never thought of it till then, but the bonnet vents are really the only place to spray the extinguisher thru!

Youre not gonna open the bonnet are you!

Everyone on this forum should have a 2kg fire extinguisher minimum.

You can buy them from various supercheaps auto1, repco & awd places and the ones to look out for are with the CAMS approved on the extinguisher box.

They have a steel bracket and 2x extinguisher bottle clamps not 1, also 2kg ones are recommended over 1kgs as the 1's dont last long at all good for putting out 2 twigs and thats about it.

Some scrutineers can pass a 1kg for events on exception but a 2kg with a doulbe clamp is what they are looking for and passes every time

If and when mounting it be sure to use a sturdy bracket as thats the next time they will check, I made mine from flat bar alloy bent to shape using a frt cuts seat mounts as the template fits snug as a rug and E1-3 recaro's slide over the top of them but still easy to get to.

Here's mine installed: 2kg CAMS approved

Yup thats very sad... A mate of mine in NZ has had 2 wrxs burn to the ground infront of his eyes... 1 was a show car and the next one he built was a go car and both ended up in flames 1 after the other.. Talk about STINK...

Least the drivers ok...
