Hi guys

This one's really got me, I'm doing the timing belt on the car, it's an auto 97 HSG. I'm up to the crank lug nut and I can't get the thing to crack. I've tried bracing a breaker bar with a pipe chocked to the ground and the bloody thing still won't crack, gave the starter a fair few hits too. I've tried my crappy brand SCA Impact wrench and still nothing. I'm wondering if i jack the car up high at the front and put it on jack stands then get leverage on a bar underneath, can i put the box in drive and put the handbrake on and get someone to hold the brake to crack the nut?

Also would the above work for getting the lug nut tight again? what do you guys rekon?

Thanks guys

Are you trying to remove the harmonic balancer?
If so you are going about it all wrong...you only need to undo the four 10mm bolts around it to remove.

They are inside the balancer surrounding the big nut in the middle that you have mentioned.

^^^ exactly what Jamo said lol.
There's timing replacement threads in this forum, or you can simply download a workshop manual from the GSR/EVO tech sticky's and refer to it.
If you're new to 4G63 timing belt replacements, you DONT want to do it without referring to the manual first :)
See attached pic.
In future, if you ever need to remove the crank bolt, there's a tool you can buy or make one yourself that does a great job of it.
Here it is here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MITSUBISHI-CRANK-TIMING-TOOL-DSM-4G63-ECLIPSE-GALANT-STRATUS-SEBRING-2-4L-4G63T-/140959170262?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item20d1d23ed6&vxp=mtr

Exactly the point I attempted to point out, in this fellas other thread about timing components.

lol that's just gold, thanks guys that just saved me a call out from a mechanic. Thanks for the links you guys just saved me heaps of trouble, I'm glad i joined this forum.

Damn Mitsubishi making engines that make repairs easier, I love them, I will be sure to grab that copy of the manual you have pointed out, cheers Jamo and evo-oox I really appreciate it.

Once again thank you guys, you saved me.

Cheers for the link evo-oox, I will need to remove the lug nut cause I will need to replace the oil seal behind there.
