Hydraulic Tensioners

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

yeah? fair enuf. could it be that the car was sittin for such a long time that the tensioner has seized or something and ever since i've been drivin it has loosened er up....!? or just a full faliure...?

Sat around for a while? Best just to do a full timing belt kit now and get it over and done with. At least then you know the condition of the components and rule them out of the equation. Its cheaper than an engine build and would put your mind at ease lol :SD

yeah in japan. it has all the signs of a car that hasn't been driven for a while. like steering wheel is all cracked on one side of it, dash is extremely dry above the cluster, gear knob is cracked to the shiz and around the clock and speakers its bulging out.

but yeah. looks like i'm gonna have to do a belt change. i just need a day or two off god damn work.

belt is still a factory one. and its far from tight lol.

Nothing funny about it. Please don't drive it in the mean time until you redo the timing belts. Disaster will be sure to follow if you do. Throw a full kit in there with new idler bearings and tensioner. You should not be able to move the belt between the cam gears more than a couple of mm up or down (and that would take a fair bit of force), anymore more than that and something has caused it to lose it's tension. The next step after a belt losing tension is a blind date between pistons and valves.

ok no worries rob... i'll get the kit on asap... i've had bad experience with valves kissing pistons... not a very nice sound imho... :(
