Need 4 new tyres, have NFI what to get, can never check/compare prices as most aren't shown online and always vary for different sizes.

Too many brands/choices.... hankook, bridgestone, dunlop, goodyear, yokohama, falken, michelin, continental, pirelli.... argh...

Lancer CC GSR 94. Currently use 205/40/17 with 84w (GSR card says its needs 85w?)

Looking around $150-$200 per tyre, the lower the better, will pay maybe a bit more if its really really worth it...

I've been getting Tyres off eBay from
Tyresforless2009 I think it is very cheap and I have not had a problem with them and they are very grippy in the dry and wet

Even by the time you pay for postage if you have to and get them balanced and fitted still very cheap

Federal 595 they should be around $100-150 each... good tyres for the price..

kumho Ku31 $150ish each again very good tyre for price....

kuhmo ku36's are pretty good from what ive heard. im looking at getting a set of these myself. they come in a 215/45/17. 85w is just a load index and speed rating. i got priced at 140 each but thats for a 16" rim.

Try st george tyres online on ebay . they sell good tyres and have good feedback. i got semi slicks delivered to perth cheaper than i could buy just the tyres in perth, the federals and kumhos are cheap and good like the others said but you get what you pay for like most things. If you do a bit of track work get better ones

KU36's for the price are pretty good just go easy in the wet.. dont handle aqua planing to well...

Hrm alright, I'll take a look at some on ebay, but I just rather go to the tyre place, a lot less farkn around.

yokohama s drive?
hankook ???? [currently have ventus sport k104s]
dunlop sport maxx?
goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3?
Falken FK 452?

Looks like I'll have to ring and find out prices and opinions, not in a super rush, won't be drive in 2 weeks... :/
Noted Dunlop have 25% off when your buying 4 tyres as well
And yea, need to be decent in the wet as well as dry, doubt I'd want semi-slicks for driving to work/weekend in rain?

Have been doing the phone around to get prices and was looking at just getting a cheap tyre

Fedral Hero hz1 @ $120 each fitted directional tyre 215/40 r17
Maxxis mav1 @198 Each fitted directional tyre but the tread looks pretty chunky

I was going to go with the kumho ku31 but no stock and apparently a soft tyre and wear quick @ $140 a tyre
Then I looked at the fedral 595-ss @ 113.00 each but they are only a 83w so no good for the gsr :(

if i wanted to spend the money id actually go for the yokohama A drive R1 very nice tyre - Currently running yokohamas A539 and they have been a really good tyre but fronts are chewed out :S

Anyway I am thinking the hero HZ1 may be the way to go this guy was happy to beat any prices I had too :D

Do 215's fit properly on a gsr? It doesn't rub or anything does it? How many have 215 vs 205 on a cc lancer?

Also, I don't get the 85w load rating, most of the 205/40/17 I find are max 84w, does it really matter that much or what?

I got a set of Kumho KU31 Ecsta SPT's under my car after some members on this forum advised they were a good tyre. They are pretty nice and grippy in the wet and the dry and I've been very happy with them.
Wear is supposed to be pretty good too. They're 215/40 ZR17 with XL Extra Load, 87W load rating. Wheels are 17x7" 40 offset.
Bought them online from Option1Garage including delivery for $528 in total! Not sure of prices these days but friends who have bought KU31 and KU36 from them in the meanitme have also commented on saving up to a couple hundred $$$. You could give them a try: http://www.option1garage.com.au/NewTyres.htm

Khubner/Lefty, there's a thread in this forum about moving the rear bumper tab out of the way if you experience scrubbing - usually happens when you go 215's to fill out the guards: http://www.4gtuner.com/topic/11906-rear-tyres-scrubbing-try-this-easy-fix/page__hl__scrubber
Here's pics of the Kumho KU31's 215/40/17 (17x7 40 offset wheels) under the rear of my AWD coupe. Those with GSR's will have a little more room to play with, thats why Lefty wouldnt have experienced scrubbing with the 205's in his sedan but will with 215's.

Cheers EVO-00X. I'll be sticking with 205's, less mucking around and don't rub for me...

Issue is 205/40/17 is load rating is 84. GSR Placard stats 85, and EVOII Placard states 87 (and 91 which I don't get)
If I go to 205/45/17 pretty sure most tyres are 87 or higher, but I don't think I want 45 height tyres? Need to see some comparison photos 40 vs 45 height :)

Looks like it seems to be..

Kuhmo KU31 - $150-$170 [Best bang for buck]
Falken ZE912 - $200-$220 [Better than the Kuhmos]
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 - ~$200-$220

More expensive
Found Dunlop Sport Maxx, all four under $900 (special on atm if you buy 4)

Unsure about...
Bridestone Potenza RE050A [I'd prefer the Kuhmos]

Then wheel alignments are extra $$

the 45 referes to the percentage of wall to tread area. so on a 205 mm tyre a 40 is 82mm and a 45 is 93 mm

Yea I understand... just need to work out what to do about this load rating, as the 205/45/17 usually are greater than 85, but the 205/40/17 are 84 or lower...
Just need to see if I think the 45 wall height looks ok compared to the 40's...

Also got the tyre calculator to see the difference the speedo will read (GSRs came 195/60/14)

When I was enigneering my car I found it extremely difficult to find a 205 tyre with a higher load rating than 84. Here is an extract during one of my emails with the engineer. In the end I ditched the 205's with 84 rating and bought the Kumho Ecsta 215 with 87 rating... a better choice in the long run because finding a higher load rating in a 215 was much much easier at the time and I had a lot more choices of tyres available.

As the existing tyre load rating on my vehicle is 84 (500kg) and with a TARE weight of 1240kg, it appears that in comparison to the GSR Lancer’s 1190kg with tyre rating of 85 (515kg), mine seems lower. It will need to be an engineer’s call on whether the load rating of the tyre used on my vehicle will need to be 84 minimum or higher. I have shopped around for replacement tyres in the 205/40/17 range with >84 load rating and nearly all shops told me that finding something >84 is ‘unavailable’, or ‘not going to happen’. I literally called a dozen (12) stores today being Bridgestone, Tyrepower, Argy Tyres, O’Neills, Kmart Auto, Jax, Beaurepairs, Tyres Plus, Tyres & More, Ross Tyres, and Goodyear and all only offered a 205/40/17 tyre in an 84 rating. If I stepped up to a 215/40/17 tyre, then I will have several options of tyres with a load rating of 87 or above.
Only one store in 12, Bob Jane T-Marts, had the one and only tyre brand called Maxxis which came in a 205/40/17 with 86W load rating. I am concerned that if I purchase these tyres, and the profile and load rating of these tyres are written on the engineer certificate, that it may be extremely difficult to source replacement tyres with the same load rating in future.

Hope that helps... ;)
