as stated before, its not the filter which is causing the restriction in ur intake (which mind you is carefully calculated on a stock car) its the piping feeding the air box & the piping from ur afm to ur turbo.
to give you an idea how much of a diff it makes, when i had all the shit done to my vr4, (e3 turbo, haltech, big cooler/pipes etc etc) it was all setup to run with the stock intake pipe with a pod on the end of it (time restraints)
if uv seen the stock vr4 intake its restrictive as fu*k! the car made 180awkw on 18psi & drove around like that with no probs for a good 3 or 4 months,
I then decided that it was time to piss that intake off & make my own less restrictive item comprising of the same pod, a 2.5" 45degree mandrell bend, 3" - 2.5" silicone reducer & a 45degree 2.5" silicon bend.
this one mod alone made the car a lot! more responcive & it felt heaps stronger until, bang! boost cut..
to cut an already long story short, the extra air being circulated through the engine was so much that the turbo wastegate simply couldnt bypass it causing massive boost creep! in the order of 25+ psi with the wastegate flapper open perminently!
even now after porting out the turbo exhaust housing it still creeps to 18psi, which doesnt matter because i run 18psi anyway
it wont make the same difference if uv still got a stock dupm or a stock exhaust mani but upgrading the 3 will reap some very encouraging results even in stock trim.
