Is my RVR a 1G or 2G

Help Support 4GTuner:

RVRs are a bit weird! Regards timing sensors i.e. cam angle, crank angle etc.

There are at least 3 variations to cam and crank sensors that I have come across

1. I had an SG that had the evo 3 style CAS (cam angle) at rear of the head only, no crank sensor at all

2. I have an engine from an SSG that had both cam and crank sensors, both at the front of the engine. This is the type you'll have on yours. (There will be 2 plugs at the front of the engine intake manifold side at about the same level as the top part of the timing cover)

3. On my HSG I have a non adjustable CAS at the rear of head, and a sensor on the crank at the front of the engine

Tentative 4. On Ian's HSG there is the same CAS rear of head, but neither of us can recall a crank sensor at the front, I will be able to confirm exactly by the weekend.

What "1G" or "2G" (generation) are you guys talking about? I am used to 1G and 2G DSM, which are identified by a very different body. As far as I am concerned, 1G RVRs includes all 91-97 models.

If it has to do with 6 or 7 bolt engines, Mitsubishi switched (globally) to 7 bolt motors in 1993, some factories ran out of 6 bolt motors and started using 7 bolt engine in very late 1992 model year.

But this has nothing to do 1G or 2G.

A definitive way of identifying a 6 or 7 bolt motors (aside from looking at the crank ;)) is by looking at the front of your oil pan. 6 bolt oil pans are flat, where as 7 bolt oil pans have curvature where oil pan meets front cover (by the timing belt cover).

Yes and no, I do enjoy forced downtime in the winter :). But I wouldn't mind driving my Spyder right now!
