Hey guys I remember a long time ago someone mentioning a screw in the back of the gauge cluster controlling the speed limiter...

Has anybody got a guide and/or pictures?

To remove Dash cluster (thanks entaran):

You need a short and long phillips screw driver and a chisel/thin blade.
Oh and they HAVE to be magnetic.

Iif you sit in yoru drivers seat jam the steering wheel as far up as it will go (tilt adjustment)

In the front of the cluster, there is a piece of plastic that rings the inside there are two screws int he top and possibly one in the bottom pull them out.

Then, the trip meter reset knob screws off to the LEFT. turn it to the left a lot until it comes off it screws off then once that's off put a flathead screwdriver or chisel or whatever under the CENTRE OF THE BOTTOM and pull up and out a bit and wiggle it till it pops out (it's a ladies naughty bit.)

Then you'll see about 8 screws around the cluster. Undo these, pull cluster DIRECTLY TOWARSD YOU going up or down or sideways will BREAK IT

Then once it's on yoru lap, undo screw, remove wire, redo screw put cluster back on STRAIGHT turn car to on, make sure lal the lights etc work.

Then screw everything back in.

That will work unless you have a stutter box. By disconnecting that wire, you also disconnect the speed signal to the ecu (so I found out the hard way).

Below is a photo of the back of the cluster of a late model J spec (hence grey wire instead of yellow), but in essence, its the same.

The better way to do it is to remove the two screws circled in green, one removes the speed cut, the other removes that lovely 105 kph chime.

Just took the 2 screws out when i go to the track next time ill tell you if it worked.

Soo simple to take out, 2 screws at the top of the surround, then just grab a thin screwdriver and run it along the top.

4 screws for the cluster then pull the top down and forwards...

Brilliant cheers for photos and help guys :D

what if you have a stutter, i think i am going to run into this problem.

Yes, but GSR's don't have the 105kph chime and the speed limiter is set at 215.

Also, they generally don't have the balls to get to 215, so it's a nonissue.

oh okies thats cools its set to 215, thats all i needed to know, also they do have the balls to reach 215 just very slowly.......

mine will reach 210 and still had a lil to go, but feels freakin scary when i still had my stock suspension, its like you were floating......... i'll see how my supercharged 4g engine goes in getting to 215kph if it does i'l proly take the speed cut off but proly just leave it for now.......

Sorry if im bringing up an old post, but couldnt help noticing nobody specified which screw was which. The upper of the aforementioned screws in the photo is the one that removes the 105kph chime, the lower removes the speed signal to ECU. I only know this as I attempted it while currently running ECMLink with launch control set at 5000rpm, which cut in quite harshly while on boost going down the street - not exactly the most pleasant thing to have happen
Extremely helpful post none the less, thanks a bunch! :D
