Lifters are in and have finally shut up after half an hour - thank god.
The tool made things so easy, just make sure you have an extendible magnet for when you accidentally drop the rockers inside the head - that'll happen with about every third one. Also, don't soak them in oil or try to bleed them, just drop them straight in and they will prime when the head builds pressure. I just cranked the engine a few times without the plugs in to make sure there was oil pressure.
Now all I can hear is the pulse of the ID 1000s, so everything is back to normal.
