car is f*ked !!
:(
was playing wit it on the road the other day in the wet...red lining maybe a bit too much.......as u do :)
now it seems something in the motor is 'rattling'
its coming from the rocker cover area...someone suggested pistons...but dunno..i get quite a severe rattling and humming.
also when i come to a complete stop..the car just stall and switches off...which inclines me to think ignition problems.
i just ordered new set of ngk sparks and leads as u guys suggested to fix another prob i was having.... im hoping this is related.
any ideas?

Whats the oil level like? How does it run when you are driving it normally? does it hold boost?

Sounds like a rod to me! Sorry mate!

Where about do you live mate? I might be able to come around and have a look. Some others wih greater knowledge than me might have some time over the weekend if you live close by.

my friends 4g93t had that similar problem.

Hammering it as usual, then next thing you know, loud rattling and clunking - ended up being a stuffed rod

could be anything

compression test i reckon

Hopefully you have leant to show your car some repsect. Only hammer a car if you KNOW it can handle it.

Doesn't sound good for you. Start saving and finding a good mechanic.

i would drive it or even start it...

drain your oil and see what comes out.. sounds like something has let go whether it be a bearing spinning or a rod that has bent...

wouldn't u mean??

take off the rocker cover and see if the valve train is still in place..
hopefully a rocker arm hasn't fallen off??
a spring hasn't broken?

you could also pull of the sump and inspect your big ends / mains...

good luck to you!

the cars runs? it just stalls when you go to pull up? correct?

i would do a comp test first, that would be an indication if the rod is bent.

if the comp is all even and reasonably high then drop the oil and see if you have any suprises come out.

from what you have discribed I must agree with most of the guys here,
I think a rod might of gone to the dark side, the other thing could be is a bearing has failed due to oil starvation? that happend to my 63 when some people (no names) fixed it for me under warranty. (cost them heaps)

JetGSR

turns out my oil was really low...
really surpirising.
must b loosing it real badly.
i think you guys are spot on.
i've been advised the rod that connects to the piston has buckled and thats why im getting a clunk.
the stalling must have been because the oil was really low.
to get this fixed whats involved?
i might b up for some big bucks apparently. :?

mimmo - i had about 5 beers afer i found out. :(

sorry to hear Dean, had the same sort of thing happen with mine 6 months after i bought, turned out to be that i spun a bearing and my oil pump relief valve was staying closed when the engine was cold on start up and blowing the oring out of the oil filter caused by all the bearing crap blocking it....

luckily i noticed the loud knocking straight away and switched it off in time and it didnt cause any damage to the crank..... i put a full new set of rod bearings, linished the crank and she good as gold....... only cost me $400 all up in parts and labour :)

mind you this was back in 02... the way i see it, dont play hard with 4g93T unless its built hard....hope you stay with another 93 seeing your cars a GSR... good luck man

Best way to fix it is to put a 2.0L in it :p

Consider the cost and availability of parts when rebuilding a 4g93 vs 4g63... I'm sure Olly will be willing to chat to you about this stuff.

(2L in a GSR)+++++ $$$$$'s= change ecu, rewire, engineers cert, emissions test.... and the hassle of TMU's if they spot it........

more of a headache to me..... just buy an evo instead.....

you dont need a engineers cert its only 200cc difference

from what i recall its nothing to do with only being 200 cc's, but the power increase and meeting aus compliance emissions... + the fact the CD5A wasn't released with a 2L... so that requires a report to be done.....
