4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Weren't the internals of the 6bolt stronger than the 7 bolt? This one is 6 bolt if you go off the sump shape... I'm only going off what I'm told or can find information on, so any clarification is always good

I agree with Jamo, there is speculation about thin line on the rods meaning forged vs fat line meaning cast, but either way it's looking like a factory SSG which would match up to the TD04HL turbo and lack of punch, don't fear though, factory 4gs are still strong, that we'll all agree on, but what you have is a standard motor SSG at the least, you won't be satisfied till it's up to HSG specs i.e. Evo 3. If it has top mount intercooler, SSG. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

Shouldnt be a 6bolt. Its too new for them. Should be a 7 bolt.
7 bolt has stronger small end on the rods but narrower big ends. So there is positives and negatives.

Seems like you are pretty set on this ride so hope it works out good.
I would suggest a dry and wet compression test. As this will let you know if you are likely to need to open engine soon. Really the rest is just boltons

Bad idle control can be diagnosed by looking at the sticky in evo1-3 section. There is a vid or 2 to look at that show some problems

it has the front mount cooler and i'm yet to confirm the turbo.
I wonder if the car is not a rare hsg in green??
I do like the car, but am still holding out until i'm sure all is good. He may come back saying he doesn't want to trade.
I'll definately be getting it checked over before the final purchase just to be sure.
if nothing else learning more about the 4g and rvrs has been a good experience.

I wonder what makes the dealer SO SURE that its a HSG? All the HSG's I've ever seen have said Hyper sports on the side. I can call an egg a toad but it's still just an egg.

As far as I know mate, the 6 bolt will never get crank walk (crank end play) and most of the 7 bolts get it, especially after fitting a heavy duty clutch. The thrust bearings failing are a common fault with the 2g's (7-bolt).

The only thing you would have to do is whack a Td05 on it and you'll be happy, power wise.

Definitely get a compression test and go from there. If it shows low comp on 1 cylinder, get a leak down test to be sure where it's going.

Cheers

So after much searching the model is a E-N23W SNHF which is a 97 hyper gear sport r
Everything seems then to be in order and it is legit all be it unusual green and silver one

Definitely a HSG-R, which will have the a TD05 big16 on in it already being a manual

The vin search was much to success and to actually find out you will have a rare green HSG in hands if you go ahead with the purchase... Originally apart from the color throwing me off the certainty of this... It was mainly the fact that the rear end of it not having the HSG spare wheel type bumper bar and tailgate as I stated earlier in this thread. Which then possibly means a rear end impact in the past??? I would inspect it further in reference to this. Good luck

Hmmm just gets better and better lol
Got hold of the mechanic who worked on the car, he said it came in with a dead battery and air flow meter, he sold those two parts to the guy who wanted to do it himself. That's all he had unfortunately. its been there since February according to the mechanic so I'll see if they will lend me the car for a few hours to get a leak down test done at work ( we sell car tools) and take it from there. Now its just a matter of wait and see from their side.

The idle cutting out when a/c engages is the isc (idle stepper control) faulty cheep at the wreckers can use a magna one.
Ahh nice one, good to know its an easy fix. I read up on the blown boards too so should be easy enough to fix. I'm a service tech so fixing stuff is right up my alley :D

So far no news from the dealer.

rang the dealer this morning after passing on the 2k rvr that was on ebay ( Had the mitsi tick, average interior and needed a fair bit of body work done.)
He wants a trade in on the soarer and some cash his way. Depending on the amount and his test drive of the soarer it may finally be happening!

Settled on a deal with the dealer, got it for $1500 less and he is pit passing and regoing it. by the time he fixes what he has to, and rego it that's the 1500 gone and my trade in value of 4K on the soarer left.
So essentially for 4k on the road drive away I'm pleased :)
Be nice to get rid of the soarer and have something fun and practical for a change. I always seen to leave out the practical haha
