Hey guys

I was driving my car on the highway today and i noticed I didn't have much power and couldn't get up hills at the speed limit. After a little bit more driving the car started to sound like a Subaru especially when accelerating. When i checked it out i pulled all of my spark plugs out thinking something might be up there and i noticed the thread on the 3rd plug had oil on it. I then cleaned up all the plugs and re adjusted the clearance on the plugs, this did not make any difference.
I then started the car and pulled off each spark plug cable separately and noticed that when i pulled the cable of the third plug it didn't drop the revs at all, so Ive come to the conclusion that I'm running on cylinders 1,2 and 4.
Does anyone have ideas on what has gone wrong.
I'm not blowing any smoke and it can still be driven just with a lot less power.

Cheers for your help

my cc lancer 1.8l done the ssame sought of thing
it ended up being the dizzy on it cant be sure if thats the problen your having

OK I'll have to get it checked out then, cheers mate.

just try re-read your 1st post. try brand new plugs and see if there is a difference. or swap the plug from cylinder three to a different pot and see if that cylinder also dies.

also check the injector plug to see it is on and the injector is working

Changed all my plugs didn't help. I also had a look at my radiator fluid while the car was running and I noticed some bubbles on the surface and some also rising up.
I think I will go and get the compression tested in the next couple of days unless someone has any other ideas.

hey does it do it when it cold? if it only does it when its hot i would say its one of the coils. mine done the same thing on a really hot day and hasn't done it since. i played around with in and noticed one of the coils didn't have as much spark as the other.

How much boost or power are you making?

On a 4g63 when you get up around 20psi you need to gap them slightly closer than how the plugs come. A lot of guys on the link forums are gaping to 0.7mm, i had to do this to as it would misfire when gaped to 0.8mm

I'd imagine a 4G93 would be in a similar boat.

Other wise i think there's a way you can check the resistance on your ignition coils

No it does it all the time even once it has warmed up

I'm not running any boost, sorry didn't mention its a CB GSR Naturally Aspirated.

Hopefully I can get it to the mechanic today and see what they say.

do ya even get a spark on cylinder 3?

take one plug out and try each socket, u'll know when a cylinder is off when it starts anyway.

could be leads too, i've had drama with those or a good clean of the spark plugs. I just had that issue on the bike just today it was running half power of 600cc bike, clean, filed and regap and fixed!

i know my 4g61 one of the cylinders is a lil lower then the others by 3-5 psi i think. still knows smooth but slow :D

I took it down to my mechanic this morning and three of my cylinders are reading about 175-180psi and the cylinder in question has no compression what so ever. He has basically said he thinks i have damaged the piston or the valves but couldn't tell exactly until he took the head off. Looks like I now have to decide whether to spend the money to replace the motor, rebuild or cut my losses and buy a new car.
