G'day I'm Michael, I have a WA Express with a 4g64.

Currently looks like this:

After 260,000km, it was using 2 litres of oil a week. Still a bulletproof engine though I've even towed a car+trailer with it. The rest of the engine is coming out in the next few days, just waiting on some parts.

I might be turboing it, have been doing some research and an early 4g63t manifold and turbo will fit, hopefully with enough clearance from the steering rack. The only thing I'm not sure about is the ecu, may have to go piggy back or possibly a complete ecu like Adaptronic. I'm a big fan of odd conversions/sleepers so a turbo van sounds like a lot of fun.

Cheers, Michael.

just go factory loom, ecu, head, etc.
makes an easier conversion.

Be cool to see another turbo express.
Good luck with the project.

Thanks. I'm still looking at ecu options, pulled the stock one out and opened it up it doesn't have a chip that can be removed and re programmed like other ecu's I'm familiar with (only had experience with old OBDI systems) so that's not an option. Would it be fine to keep the stock ecu, but run a bigger pump and increase fuel pressure? This is my second engine rebuild but I'm still learning when it comes to turbos.

Sorry, should have been more clear.

I meant to say use the stock turbo ecu and wiring loom from a turbo motor, as well as maf and all the other bits that would be different.
You will need to upgrade your pump.

Yeah, I did some research couldn't find any 4g64 turbo engines in Australia, but its a popular swap in the US and they use Eclipse 4g63T ECU's. I will be using stock 4g63t 450cc injectors (mine are 275cc, pretty useless). I'll pull the pump out as well to see what type it is and what will be a straight swap.

Looking at getting this. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190400309784&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT VR4 turbo manifold. It will work with my engine as the turbo will sit further back, allowing clearance from the power steering pump. Will try to get ahold of a 16g td05l and stock dump pipe, and modify it to suit.

Will post more once I start pulling the block apart, and buy more parts. Thanks for your help :)

Ahh sorry, the 2.4 bit slipped my mind.

I'm really not up on tuning and what not, but if it's possible, then still use the 63 turbo ecu and have it flashed???

An aftermarket would be less ehadaches, to a degree, but more cost I would imagine.
