Niggling reassembly issues

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

So did I dre. I really wanted to do a cruise with Team4g plates, but it appears I've caused some semi terminal head damage. Which is a good enough excuse to get a worked head and strap it to the car right? So it becomes a matter of budgetting now rather than anything else.

Bottom end is fine.

Timing Belt Tensioner Failed, Intake valves 1 & 3 look like banana's. The springs are sitting almost on the lifter. YAY!

Head's off, being put in a box after the cruise tomorrow and sent to the engine builder. There is absolutely no marks where the valves hit the pistons so the pistons are good.

Lucky you didnt damage the pistons :)
Didnt you test the auto tensioner when refitting the timing belt? (remove it and place in a vice, stick a small allen key in the hole, then pull it out).
Or do you think the reason is contributed to incorrect piston to valve clearance? especially if someone had been playing around with the valvetrain? hmmmm???? lol :p

Honestly, I don't have the experience to answer your questions EVO. I tested it and it seemed fine, although when I pulled it off there was a large amount of grease/oil around it and considering the engine has done all of 9000 kms I should've been asking more questions about whether or not it was actually good.

Piston to valve clearance is fine. As I said, I pressurised the cylinders when replacing valve springs, changing the valvespring on the top shouldn't have changed anything in regards to clearances.

As for age of tensioner I don't know. I only recently bought the car. I have ordered a new genuine one from trav which will be here wednesday hopefully, I will reassemble the car then. Hopefully be running by thursday.
