What's the deal with the water pump if i want to change that at the same time ( has a noisy bearing).

Can I just use any Vr4/4G63 or once again going to have to find something rvr specific ?

Thanks
Pete.

It's not the same as a vr4. It could be similar/same as a evo one, but not totally sure.

Again, I just brought everything from meek, because it was easy, he has all the parts in stock.

Defiantly worth changing.

T/belt parts and water pump are confirmed to be the same between RVR and
EVO1-3.

That was from Meek

edit : He does the cam cover, but it's different to what mine has. Unless I just buy that and dremel out the little notch for the CAS plugs.

I can get you a water pump part number if it is the same as an evo.....got a new one in the shed if you want to compare it

I'll just order one through Meek I think, it's going to be the same cost as getting one down here ( will have to get it shipped in)

So, it's all running !

Water pump, Timing belt A and B, and CAS changed.

BUT.

Now the water pump bearings aren't yelling to die, I can hear the lifters, and they are loud as anything.

Could this be because it's been sitting here for 2 weeks, and completely untouched, and it's about 5 degrees outside ?

I've only run it for about 10 seconds, heard the lifters and shut it off. Should i try and let it warm up and see if the noise quietens down, or should i recheck the timing on the on the oil pump through the hole on the rhs ? We did the check where you line it up and see which way the pump falls, and according to one of the the pages we found that was a step by step thing, it said to get the pump to drop counterclockwise, which it does.

it definitelty sounds up top though, and all the timing is spot on. It doesn't miss, and idled by itself.

Thanks so much guys,

Pete.

congrats, now you have the satisfaction of a bargain car, and one you can fix.

my 93t rattled up top for a bit and was maybe 3 mins before the last one shut up.
some have probably just bled down a bit from sitting around.

I don't think i've ever heard lifters this noisy before, it sounds like all of them are noisy, at first i thought it was something rubbing, but it's definitely coming from the head

did you take the lifters out? If you did...did you bleed them?

if the answer to removal is no....they should be ok after a minute of running.

if the noise persists......look at valves hitting pistons

Sounds like something very bottom end actually, now i've let it run for more then 10 secs during the day.

Kind of like a belt hitting the plastic gaurd.

Time to rip it all off again and check, i am pretty sick of this shit already !!

take the plugs out, put each piston at the bottom of stroke and shine a torch down through plug hole. look for witness marks of valves.

so, some idiot ( me ) forgot to put the 2 washers behind the cas in the haste to get it done at 10pm at night. So after pulling it all apart yesterday, checking the timing and spinning the motor 12 times, it's fixed. Sounds awesome now, so quiet.

Time for a catback!

I'll post up the link to the manual I used, it was. 2g dsm manual, that has all the correct marks I had, and the cas on the crank.

Thanks so much guys.

VR4 box wont fit up to an evo or RVR.

because the there aren't any mount holes on the Vr4 bell housing to attach the roll stoppers.......the VR4 has the roll stoppers on the block
