Hi guys.
I have two problems. One is my turbo isnt boosting. I havent taken it off to see which side of the turbo is phucked. But my more worrying problem is that the engine is very loud and angry over 3000 rpm. I have been told it could be the valves need to be adjustable. I would have thought that they were auto adjusting?? If it makes sense to anyone can anyone shed any light? Thanks. Oh and if my turbo is phucked what is a good replacement?

sounds like engine internally damaged eg maybe a rod or piston

and to check the turbo you can just take off the pipe from the airbox to the turbo and check for, in and out play, plus up and down play, and how it spins,(no more thn 2.5mm play should be there

no no dont say that!!!!
ahhh im gonna cry like a little girl :'(
thanks for turbo tip will get right on that.
Does that mean driving my car from canb to narooma is not a good idea? even if i keep it under 3500rpm?

does it struggle at all below 3k?

Could be your leads - sparkies or even possibly intake leak?

get all the cheap s*(& outta the way lol

No. It sounds fine under 3, and it never misses as would be the case if spark plugs & or leades wer ethe problem. It does get all the way to 6-7k but it just doesnt get there quickly thanks to the lack of turbo and in part the valves i hope. and it sounds angry. If it was missing it would sound kinda sad and pitiful :p

BTW trying to look at the valves and having a major problem...

HOW THE *&^% DO YOU GET THE ROCKER COVER OFF!!!

I hope im not the only person with this problem.
It wont budge the slightest. I have even resorted to hitting it with a hammer and a piece of wood. All bolts are out, leads are off timing belt top cover is off. What am i missing? There were 8 bolts on the outside, 6 or so holding the sparky cover on, and 6 under that including the one with the lead bracket on it.
PLEASE HELP!!!

there should be 14 bolts all the ones near the spark plug holes have to come off as well to remove it

If your valves were fucked, you'd know all about it. I'd check the small things first, like ignition, plugs, leads, coil pack.

When my engine let go, i had a belt tensioner parted company. slackened the belt and the inlet valves were touching the pistons. they didn't bend tho. Sounded exactly like what you are describing.
Also check you harmonic balancer. Mine slipped at the same time.

Aso another thing when mine let go, i tried to do the inspection with just taking the rocker off - everything checked out fine - on visual inspection that is

hmmm did someone say valves...

ive replaced my valves 6months ago cause i had one burnt out, and guess what??? shat itsself again.. i think a simple compression test picks up if its ur valves doesnt it..

Didnt you say you didnt have a rev limit? How often have you been testing that?

if the valve is burnt it should show up with a compression test, when i tested mine comp test checked out within the limits.
but on the other hand, if the valves are bent, will show up no doubt about it.

if the valves where burnt it would smoke on start up(you would notice)

if the cambelt jump a tooth it could do the same problem, my lancer jumped 2 teeth and it sounded like it had 272 cams :D but I had to put it back to normal to run more boost

maybe drop the oil and check for metal shavings

or could be headgasket broken between two cylinders

just guess work unless we could look at it

Well guys i can telll you no that i think because my car had been sitting for at least a year it needed a good run. I think a valve wasnt quite opening all the way. However on my trip to narooma it just started getting better and better until bam all good.
HOWEVER.....

If to my quote you had said:
1. No dont drive your engine could be stuffed because its (pistons, valves...).
you would have been wrong
2. Should be fine man give it a go.
you would have been wrong
3. Dont drive it man just coz.
thats just lazy so ur wrong too.

The only correct answer was
4. Dont drive it man your tailshaft is going to start eating your centre diff and your going to have to hire a car trailer and get it towed home.
And you call yourself 4g experts :p
Any ideas what my problem is? talshaft wobbles around inside the transfer case and it makes a horrible gratey noise and on the sump plug on the bottom of the transfer case there is grey oil that has little bits of metal in it :'(

the oil wasnt grey when it went in... thats even finer metal shavings.

it sounds like it has a leak & has now shit itself due to lack of oil...

did u do all fluids & belts before you started driving the car around?

Yeah i figured thats why it was grey but it still smooth changing gears :S And no i had to go down the coast and found out where the fill holes for diff and gearbox are about an hour before i left :S
it was on my things to do list :'(
