They should jsut ban school holidays... it'd fix everything...

Fuck it, lets ban everything except for antiques road show, Irish breakfast tea and food thats soft and easy to chew

I actually agree with this. And I'm 24. And I drive fast.

Save your antics for a racetrack. It's less expensive in the long run and safer for everyone involved.

TBH, I think if you're nailed 45+kmh over the limit and you're under 25, you should have your car confiscated permanently on the spot and have to redo your entire P-plate period w/passenger restrictions.

Technically, this would even affect me atm.

isnt it 25km over the limit an ya get ya car impounded??

to solve the problem, they should stop making 300kw cars coming out the factory, if the speed limits a 110 max in au, whats the need for a car that can do 300+km, bottom line is, no1 wants that cos life would be boring, its all in the licencing system, its just to easy to get. check out holland an how much money/how hard it is to get ya licence, its a real test.
an parents need to take responsibility for there kids, why buy a kid a car if they have the attitude they know it all, put the kid in his place an take the keys off him, arghhhhh! this shit pisses me off!

All because of some fuckstick who had to speed the other night and kill 5 people....... .......are results of a media with no other news.....

In the beginning the media flogged off some story that it went wrong when he was forced to drive away from gate crashers, and that it was a tragedy. Then when the police released that he was 0.19 the story has changed and the politicians have jumped on the bandwagon.

Was he a hoon? Was he a drink driver? Why did he have his car at the party? Arent P platers supposed to be 0.00? Was he inexperienced? Why was he driving a 2007 XR6? (Can you even register a car like that on P plates?) Why did he have 5 other passengers (6 occupants in total) in the car when he had passenger restrictions from a prior incident?

Hoon laws wont change the fact he was dickhead. Our society supports losers and protects them from natural selection.

yep, i agree, although its the innocent people that get taken out that is the issue.

Im sick and tired of this whole debate, the govenrment increasing penalties, labelling every person who has any sense of a 'high powered' automobile in their possesion a 'hoon'. And yet, what do they do - nothing really, apart from getting me pulled over for driving normally up to the shops and my car defected.

Increasing penalties isnt working, and will never work. There will always be retards who endanger other people on the road, there will always be people who speed. All the fucktard government needs to do is build some motorsport complexes and have them open 24/7 for affordable prices - then maybe people may take their dickhead driving elsewhere!

Same kind of issue happened in the 80s and 90s, with skateboarders causing havoc in public places - and what do you see these days? skate parks everywhere, they are a part of every new precinct that is currently being developed, and I dunno about you guys, but i havent seen anyone on a skateboard for yonks ...

in a similar way to the death penalty not stopping crimes o/s.... increasing penalties isn't the best deterrant.

I think again it's training as always. People aren't aware enough of how much damage is inflicted when they crash at high speed, or that it's easier to lose control at speed.

Sad to see lives lost.
I hate how the media exaggerates the situation though. I dont know if anyone saw the Herald Sun insert a couple of days ago.
Was it a performance car? (To some degree, slightly, but not really) But the media made sure they mentioned it was a high performance vehicle. They also highlighted their passions in life, most of them had drinking, partying etc as their hobbies.

So true.
Now it's people like us, who, yes, have a loud car, and yes, may "look fast", although we do the right things on the road who will cop it. We're part of the label.

ppl dont understand u can still kill urself in a 4 cylinder 1.5 carby motor if u really wanted too.. those cars can get up to the sort of speed that can kill anyone its just that they take that bit longer to get there? lets face it if they wanna make sure ppl dont kill themselves they should limit cars to 120kmph...(new cars)

and lets face it when all the p platers are forced to buy that one sort of car and they still kill themselves whats their excuse? ooo exactly...

ppl fuk up things happen.. that is life..
u know what they say u can lead a horse to water but u cant make it drink...!

Jon

I say show Learner and P-plate drivers horrific accident photos and footage when they go for their licence. Im not talking about a car wrapped around a pole, Im talking about showing them the occupants of the car IN the car thats been wrapped around a pole, or whats left of them anyway.

Body parts, smeared people, brain matter all have a dramatic effect. I say show them what happens when you fuck about in an uncontrolled environment.

It'll never happen though, because the mum and dad voters will kick up a shit about it being sickening, disgusting, traumatising etc etc.... (Which is the whole point). But I can guarantee this would actually reduce road casualties over these retarded hoon laws theyre trying to implement.

Shock and Awe baby.

With regards to the accident last week, I think it was just a plain XR6 which is legal to drive on P's? Its a family four door....

Could Not agree with you any more. there is roughly a skatepark in every subburb now if not one very close. we have no legal places at all open 24/7 to go to and what 3 or 4 tracks in australia that every time and again are open to the public. charge a resonable price have a waver form, make sure you have a minumn of your p plate license and a breath tester and make it .oo for track use. i no if they made several places avalible for us then it would get my self and alot of people i no off the streets, but atleast we do it in a saffer enviroment. the gouverment could actually make money off it, sponsor sighns etc. then put the money back into makeing more tracks or facilities.

as for the car ive herd from a close friend when he drove past about an hour later he thought it was a xr6 turbo. its a verry sad i no but i think drink driving is a bigger problem that needs to be fixed.

an the pollys keep trying to bring the road toll down, but every year there are more and more drivers/motorists so its kind of inevitable that there are gunna be accidents, they should really engineer roads better too considering that only 25% of petrol taxes gets put back in to the roads, they could do a little better,
an screw the new tennis complex, 2 weeks of a year that it'll get used for, agree with gsrsol, build us some tracks

It's not how well engineered the roads are or how low they bring the speed limits down or even how many racetracks are available - it's that some people just choose to drive like an idiot. As long as there are guns people will choose to shoot other people, as long as there are Happy Meals people will choose to eat them and then bitch that they are fat, as long as there are cars - people will choose to drive like fuckwits.

Society is just filled with these kind of people - you can't help them and regardless of the precautions taken (which only end up hurting the greater community who are usually responsible anyway) they will keep doing it.

Zero tolerance - they choose to fuck up - punish them severely. No warnings, no second chances, no 48hr impound - confiscate the car, ban them from driving for life and then see what choices they make going forward.

Just to mention - in Victoria there are racetracks available for the public to use and regular events run at them by various enthusiast groups/clubs. From what I've read on this and other forums, hardly ANY Melbourne members seem to take their car to a track for serious speed work, so it drives me nuts to read people bitching about "we have no place to go and do burnouts" and "there should be 24/7 places available for us where we can drive fast". If you were serious about "getting off the streets" and driving in a "safer environment" you would be watching the Motorsports Events calender and signed up for 2-3 track events already.

You know the old saying, 'its not guns that kill people.... it's people that kill people".
Well "its not cars that kill people, its the fkn retards behind the wheel!" But let's face it, the authorities see a car as a vessel to commit murder in the hands of the irresponsible. Remove the car and you remove the means. That's the mentality the authorities have decided on and just like the gun amnesty, these weapons will be crushed so they cant do anybody any more harm. Its sad to think that it had to come to this, but the fact is there's just too many irresponsible idiots out there and other road users deserve the right to get home safely. I know that if anything ever happened to my family as a result of someone needlessly street racing I'd be out for blood! :fuuuuu:

but the problem is the steroetype now, and the whole "discretional" decision process when it comes to booking people under 'hoon' laws.

Put it this way -

You are cruising down street in your modified E1-10/GSR/VR4 whatever. You know its a bit of a cop magnet, so youre making a concerted effort to drive under the speed limit and responsibly. You are coming up to an intersection where a TMU / cop car is sitting waiting to cross the road you are travelling on. As you approach the intersection, a fuckstick in a lambo or ferrari or GTR (or whatever) tromps it past you doing some insane speed. By chance, you go through the intersection together at around about the same time. Police start pursuit - and guess who theyll pull over? You. And because of the car you drive, youre a hoon already - youre car will be impounded and god knows how much fines youll also get.

I know its just a scenario, but its one of many where you could easily get caught out for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

thats the problem!

shayne bud, its so true that its the individuals responsibility, BUT, if the roads are crap then travelling at high speeds becomes more dangerous as the surface (potholes/cheap repairs) is pushing an pulling on the car, an not to mention the fact that the round-a-bouts have off camber, why would they do that, CHEAP is why, for the amount of tax they take road quality should be alot higher

and tracks are there but the freeways are free an easier to get to, i cant afford to track my car every w/e no matter how much i want to, an why lock the tracks up every night, cos they dont make money is why,

but i do agree shayne that its the individual that is the problem, but to give them more chance of survival, why not spend fuel taxes back in the road, the moneys already been taken, its wrong that they dont it, imo, stop using accidents to avoid the spotlight ya govt wankas,

an yea dan, an u/c cop burned past me an a marked car u turned in heavy traffic to "licence check" me....absolute effin joke

Well all i can say is, he deserved everything he got, DEATH.

Its a shame he had to take others down with him, people like this are whats fucking everything for everyone, and i don't mean the enthusiasts like our selves but everyone, in the way of police cracking down and becoming even more bunch of assholes than they already are, to insurance skyrocketing, just because some mindless fuckstick oxygen theives want to go out and prove how much of an awesome driver they are.

$10 says in the last minute of his meaningless fuckin life the line "hey, fuckin watch this" was used.

Fuckstick.
