Oil Filter Sandwich Plate - Which One?

hahahaa... naaa, the cable ties are just the 'precautionist' in me coming out lol. The pushlocks were created for motorsport use for quick fitment and designed to go on and never come off. I was skeptical at first too but I almost popped a vein trying to get the hoses onto the pushlock fittings and found it harder to put on than getting braided hose on. It took me several minutes of pushing and straining and in the end I had blisters.

* Trying to keep it above gutter level *

Did you lube the fittings up? I've heard that water works really well and doesn't leave residue, like CRC or WD40. I've just picked up a pair of Speedflow fittings for my water lines and am not looking forward to getting the hoses on.

I hate to say this but if you use a FRAM filter it would probably take up less room than your 180deg bends and the sandwitch plate???

and it has a gritty end so you can undo it with your hand to replace it!

BTW oil is naturally hot in the filter so the dump isn't going to heat the oil any more than it allready is. (when you drive there is air flowing around that area to help move the radiated heat away)

The main advantage to a relocation kit is you can put a larger filter in place of the pissy factory one and you can get a more common filter too, aka Z9
and maybe a better location for easy removal. Behind the front bar isn't that convieniant if you have to remove the bar to get to the filter.?

just my 2 cents ... I may be wrong?

I have about 5mm clearance from my dump pipe to the oil filter, so I'll be looking at getting this setup to:
Make life easier when changing the filter, I'm sick of getting burnt.
To help keep the oil cool by having the filter away from direct heat
To extend engine life and oil change intervals because of the larger filter and more oil in the engine.

The only downside is the initial cost, the effort of installing it and that you might need an extra litre of oil when it comes time to change it, but if your like me and buy in bulk, It doesn't matter. It still works out cheaper than buying 1x5L bottle of oil.

And push lock fitting are a C%$^ to take off.

Yeah Jet the whole aim of my relocation is to get the filter in another location for easy replacement making it less of a hassle to change the oil and filter regularly. The added benefit of having a couple of places to screw oil temp and pressure feeds into the mount is a bonus. Integrating an oil cooler in the setup is personal preference but it is also an advantage and recommended. I should be able to get to it by just turning the wheel to full lock without taking the front bar off, if not jacking the car up would do the trick :D

Yeah you would only want to remove a hose from a fitting when the hose is damaged and you are replacing it with new hose. To remove the hose you would need to cut it off as those suckers are stuck on the barbs good. You should never want to reuse a hose end after its already been on a pushlock or braided adapter anyway so you either cut the hose back at least 20mm to a new fresh spot or replace it with another length of hose if its gonna be too short.

MEEK sell the VR4 oil filter housings which have the ports for an external oil cooler. I think I'm going to go this way, which means I can run the EVO oil cooler I've got lined up.

I have to remove the side covers anyway to fit my adjustable cam gears (when they get here) so might as well do the lot in one go.
