Hey guys, just wondering what people think about 35/40's? Genuine Garrets, nothing knock off.

I'm atm running a TD06 but i'm thinking that a 35/40 is a better choice for me.

So i'm just wondering what the general consensus is on them?
I know they're a good turbo, but is anyone running them on our engines? if so, how are they performing?

Just so it's known, my car isn't a daily driver and i couldn't care less about fuel consumption. The aim is to get the most i can out of a standard bottom end. Which by all accounts, is going to be quite a task in itself.

Any opinions are welcome.

Cheers, Mike

Id be interested in the td06 if u were going to sell

indeed i am going to sell.
Once i have the new manifold and dump fabricated.

PM what it's worth to you and we might be able to work out a deal.
Keeping in mind i paid $850 for it, from Clutz off these forums. It's as new. Cars been started twice with it bolted on.

Buy bigger injectors... that is all :p
Nick (vr4rs) runs one. He is running in the 120mph zone at around 22psi I believe and he is still on the stock motor.
Personally I am starting to really like my new turbo... it's a fun little thing!

LMAO... mate, i think my best bet is to max out these 850's first. Lol
Once they are maxed, i'll go bigger.

See, this is why i love this forum, there's no such thing as second place. There's mad, and then there's insanity.
If you don't fall into the latter, you fall behind the pace. Lol

What size is your turbs? You looking to go into the 10's or something?

EDIT: sorry, i said 11's, YOUR ALREADY THERE!!! 10's??? LMFAO see above... INSANE

Hehehe, Insane is one way of putting it
I am hoping to hit a 10 either this year or once it starts to cool off next year.

The new turbo is just a tad larger than a 35r on the compressor side and fairly similar to it on the exhaust side.
It's enough turbo to have powered a couple of late model evos in the states into the 9's

10's hey... hmm... your not trying to get ahead of me 2 much i hope.
You realize im coming for your title of unopened bottom end. Lol

Sorry for the off topic post Fugitiv but it's been bugging me lol. Tim what do those little holes on the compressor cover aim to do? :)

Anti surge.

I run a gt35r on my 4g63.
Seems to run alright, runs ok on wastegate pressure (22psi) untuned, bit on the laggy side imo.

Untuned @ 22psi? Bugger that. Lol
When would you see full boost?

lol its not completely un-tuned but i haven't done a final tune until i sort out a few bugs.
at the moment i see full boost @ 5000-5500 but the wastgate is bleeding early which need to be sorted on the final tune as the boost controller is part of the haltech.

Edit - it Has a 1.06 rear housing

Here is something for ya.

It is way too hard to speculate but depending if everything else its matched to that turbo you should be seeing an easy 350kw plus at all wheels

I reckon forget the turbo and spend the $$ on building the bottom end to be reliable first.
Even though Ive seen healthy stock bottom end 4G63T's making 315kw atw on 24psi with a GT35R you cant run those boost figures all the time and have to tone it down for normal use. It's fun when its boosting but its a bit of a laggy bitch with a not-so-good power curve when its not.
Check out TOYGSR vid below which is a friend of mine. It runs a stock Evo engine (OEM head and bottom end), custom exhaust manifold with GT35R, external wastegate, 1000cc injectors, Microtech ECU, 24psi, AWD dyno. Its been rather freaksih for a stock engine with just bolt ons and ran an 11.7 quarter. The owner is smart enough to know not to push it any further

Running 11.7 is awesome, but how is it a "freak" motor when a gsr weighs less than a tank vr4 and brisvr4 has gone 11.4 on a stock vr4 motor. Go the mighty vr4's! lol. Still that gsr is making some bloody nice power!
There's a fair few guys in the US pushing stock internal 1g motors with cams and arp headstuds, in the 50-55lb of airflow range. They can take it.

"freak" as in its been tuned and detuned several times and the more it got pushed the more it is still holding up after all this time
Thats a sign of a good healthy OEM engine. But you have got to be realistic and understand that you simply cant expect to push OEM engines further into this territory without dramatically increasing the risk of engine failure.
