Hi, I am reletively new to the awd scene and I would like to know the most suitable Lsd for the front a center for an all round track, drag and street cordia with awd running gear from the galant. I have seen the phantom grip lsd for the front wheels (I am assuming) do these just act like a spooled diff and create horrible conditions for driving on the street, I also do not understand how it is installed or what is replaces. For the center diff I have read about the cusco tarmac diff that distributes the power 35 to the front and 65 to the back, is this a good choice of Lsd or would a center spool be a better option keeping in mind that the spool is around 300 where as the cusco diff costs.. alot more. Again would the center spool ruin its street drivability? I also understand the the spooled center will create better 60ft times.

Any advice on choice of Lsd would be appreciated. I would like to reach at least 400hp with my build.

im pretty sure everyone goes for Kaaz as its strong and cheaper

it would be interesting to see your car as i want to do this myself(4wd cordia)

Cusco anything will be noisy i think its almost a general rule...i had a cusco 1 way in my FWD coupe and it was quite noisy and harder to drive in small areas but with no power steering that added to the harder steering problem.
I have a Cusco in my Evo now and its noisy too so i'm guessing its just going to be something you will have to live with if thats the way you wanna go. :)

im sure the exhaust will be louder, but if the kazz diff is cheaper that will be better, I have a few questions

Why is a clutch type lsd better for the front? The phantom grip and also the one from slowboy racing are pretty cheap.

Im not sure what it means by replacing the viscous coupling unit and replacing the centre diff I was under the assumption that these were the same thing? what is the difference.

How important are lsds in awd, or in which order of importance are they, is the rear more important then the center, is the front not as nessessary? I want to eliminate wheel spin on hard launches but also be able to keep on the pedal in corners without being attacked by understeer.

The cusco tarmac diff isn't a plate type though, and it still uses the stock viscous to limit slip, so it won't be noisy at all.

SO i take it you bought a Green VR4'd cordia ;).. I know the car well

I did buy a vr4 motor out of a green cordia? From Qld though. Is the tarmac diff suitable for drag and circuit racing, or would it be bad for 60ft times?

Of the 3 diffs in what order should they be updated?

Importance wise for a powerful street car I'd say rear LSD first, then centre, then front.
If your gbox already has a viscous LSD gearbox then that's good enough IMO.

Fitting an aftermarket mechanical LSD in your gbox will add to the noise and also effect the steering of the car. I'd probably steer away form it if you intend to use the car for a streeter more than a track car. The Phantom grip LSD has probably had a 50/50 response from users. Ive read about people who swear by them and others who swear at them. One of my friends has a genuine Phantom Grip LSD in his GSR and its fine on the street and turning wise. Its done many launches, quarter mile passes and pushes over 300kw atw. It has performed well thus far.

If planning hard launches the centre diff is definitely something you would need to upgrade. There's aftermarket alternatives and custom made 4-spider jobbies about that increase the strength. I havent done it to my car yet, but I guess I'll fix it when I break it (which may be sooner rather than later after the car gets tuned so investigating my options)

I spose it just a risk whether to get a phantom grip lsd. Does the kaaz lsd have a 4 spider arangement? What center diff does your friend have?
