4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Does it use a standard PC HDD?

If so, there is no difference in size between 1TB and 500MB - They're all built to a standard architecture.

I just finished Batman: Arkham Asylum (on PC). If the PS3 version is anything like the PC version, it should be a great game to play.

oh ok
yeah its a standard LAPTOP size hard drive

i read there was a difference in height of the 2 drives in a thread about it on whirlpool.net

Just read the instructions you posted the link to.

I think as long as you bought a reputable brand 2.5" SATA HDD you'd be right.

Stick to Seagate or Western Digital & it should be OK.

You could always take a tape measure with you to the PC Store!

It's a shame installing a Solid State Drive (SSD) won't increase performance though, that'd be sweet!

just did some more reading
it has to be a 2.5" drive also
not a 3.5"

here is a faq I found for the process

I was going to ask the PC tech that comes into work to see if he can get me one, I will let you know if I can, otherwise 500GB is still plenty for me , but thanks for looking into it

yeah it appears the TB drives are only available in 3.5"
which is FAR to big for the ps3 hole

you can run the cable out the side of the ps3 and have it sitting on the bench next to it but thats dodgy and unsafe...

or just have the 500gig inside the ps3 and a 1tb as an external drive in the usb port

Where have I been to miss this topic???

What is the benifit of going a bigger HDD?
I mean unless you can store games on the HDD, is there any other reason?

I've got the slim, how many gigs in that thing?

I haven't really looked into the ps3 specs, I just plugged in it and played.
MW3 is awesome. Gotta try it online with you guys.
4GT meet? LOL

Even shifted. 4GT race?

More games require more hard drive space. Slims have 120 from memory. U can download games or demos of games.you can store music movies and pics on the ps3 if u want. If u get playtv you can record tv like foxtel iq I think....

cheers Scott I was wondering that also, I was going to go for the 7200 lol

mines a 60GB baz and Ive only 15GB left on there so I thought I have to upgrade I may as well get the largest one in there, a 4GT game day would be sweet, just wait for me...lol

I was thinking also what about the Fan's inside should they be replaced at the same time?

I don't think the fans are prone to failure Trav so you might not need to change them.

Mine is the original 60gig version too and my hd is also full so it's time for an upgrade!
The extra hd space is handy Baz as I use my system to stream and store movies on (the ps3 will play divx and avi video if you were not aware) so any video I download goes onto the ps3 for viewing on the big screen.
Plus I was considering buying play tv which will take up a large amount of space recording high def tv.

A modern warfare match sounds good, I am always up for it on the weekends.....my psn username is the same as on here if you want to add me.

If you have a Windows 7 PC and a Wireless Home Network, The PS3 automatically picks up the Windows 7 machines and lists the Music / Video / Picture shares from it.

I put all my Videos, etc on my 2TB or storage on my PC, and then just watch them on the big screen via the PS3!
