pending what u do as a job bro ull prob earn more money over here or you could sell coke... probably offset itself but fill up the container for sure park a vr4 in it

over here im on $20 hr with time and a half after 42hrs,in oz I will be able to go on a starting rate of $27 and then up to $30-31hr,also I think you have to own the car in NZ for two years to be able to bring it over so that rules out buying one and bringing it over, the cost of shipping alone I think would make more sense to buy one in OZ.

Its 12 months, but unless its a car that you REALLY REALLY enjoy, and its a car that will sell easily here, then it simply aint worth it!!

Already looked into this, and it simply wasn't feasible

Having a vr4 again is really getting me interested, how often or how many j-spec versions are there floating around and do they often come up for sale.another thing I can do is buy the aus spec and just bring the j-spec bodykit with me plus any other parts I may need.

once I get a concrete time of coming over I will post up here and where possible I can bring some parts with me(if I have room) for anyone who needs vr4 parts

dude u said it right there your wage will offset the cost diff so ure just gunna have to suck it up an pay a bit more and the rules are heaps different here over here drivin a vr4 is a lil more unique an different may i say a privledge to own one coz there aint t5hat many mate

what can you get away with and what can't you get away with in OZ,for example if I end up with a vr4 how much can I modify it before I run afoul with the police.

Exhaust, pod filer, b.o.v, boost tap/control, momo steering wheel etc will get you a canary a.k.a pink sticker

but if u dont act like a retard u wont get done simple as that....u have to be a smart ass or something its the blow off that'll get u caught so keep a stocko on

you dont have inspections like we do over here is that correct,so you could have certain mods and get away with it as long as you stay under the radar and drive nicely?

Yep, no regular inspections. Unless you get busted doing something you shouldn't or get pulled up by a roadside inspection.

Has the interclub challenge changed such that they now allow awd vehicles to score points?

Which club are you a member of?

I can't wait to get back and start doing this all again.

Yes, AWD's can score points for the ICQ, otherwise the WRX club wouldn't win as many events as they do.

Cause my passion is rallying, I'm an active member of www.ndscc.asn.au

I think we (NDSCC) came 4th or 5th in the ICQ last year, and we didn't even do half of the events.

..

lets say hypotheticly I get a vr4 and do the following mods...

coilover suspension
race seats
momo steering wheel
either 17s or maybe keep the stock 15s
bigger turbo
bigger intercooler painted black,no cut bumper
blow off valve plumbed back in
air filter in air box
have all engine mods look as factory as possible
possibly a half cage for safety during events

how much trouble would I get with the following mods? I have now decided I will definately get one and im going to start stock piling parts to bring with me and spares.which mods of those are legal and which ones would be borderline or completre no no's

how does the whole registration thing work, over here we have an inspection every 6mnths which we have to pass plus pay rego costs which you need to have passed the inspection to buy the rego

so if I get vr4 thats already on the road and has rego or how ever its done and from then on im confused,if I avoid getting pulled over will you ever have to have an inspection? can i keep paying rego and insurance on these mods?

Re: ..

To the best of my knowledge (some conditions may apply)...

coilover suspension - illegal (only if you get caught)
race seats - legal if they are ADR approved.
momo steering wheel - Legal as long as its not too small (don't know exact requirements)
either 17s or maybe keep the stock 15s - Legal generally as long as the the overall circumference isn't different to stock by more than 15mm.
bigger turbo - touchy subject. may have emissions issues.
bigger intercooler painted black,no cut bumper - legal.
blow off valve plumbed back in - legal
air filter in air box - mostly legal, but some transport inspectors can be idiots.
have all engine mods look as factory as possible - wise move
possibly a half cage for safety during events - legal if you have a mod plate for it and the car is changed to a 2 seater.

Basically, once you have bought the car, there are no inspections required. BUT, the transport department do have road side inspections where they pull you up and go over things. Also, Cops can pull you up for things and force you to take it for an inspection once it's fixed.

Basically though, if you are not being a goose on the street, then you will very rarely have a problem.

Whether your mods will be covered by Insurance is up to the insurer.

are they natzis during inspections? if you are nice and respectful etc will they treat you fairly,im 32 so im no boy racer.also can vr4's be imported from japan or have they ditched the whole 15yr import rule? is there enough j-spec vr4's around to be for sale often? sorry for all the questions but you guys have been great help.

i agree with all of the above except the coil overs.

i believe you can have coil overs if they only have a spring tension
adjustment.(or one adjustment)

if they have spring tension and ride height together like a tein flex, then they are illegal.

so for examble tein flex = not rw
tein super street = rw

I think you are better off buying a cheap GSR.

The reason for this is that there are so many CC Lancers and the parts are available freely so that if and when you do tap something you can get things going quickly.

I had a GSR which had a cat back exhaust and just lowered springs and I was competitive enough in the touring events etc which I competed in.

On a side note is the only ADR fixed back race seat made by Velo?
What other brands are there?

The last I heard up here is that if the ride height is "adjustable", then its not considered RW. The inspector i was "discussing" it with didn't care how the ride height was adjusted, didn't care whether the spring was still held captive, and (here's the best bit) didn't even know that if you change your ride height that you have to have a full wheel alignment afterwards cause it throws the toe way out

depends who u get. Some Cops know their stuff.
some can be nazis some not so much.
if u get pulled over for speeding or something usually they wont check.
i believe they need 3 reasons to give u a defect notice so if they do notice one thing, u'll b sure that they're gonna search ur car high and low to find another 2.
