Help Support 4GTuner:

after reading this, i'm draining out the motul ff-lsd oil out of my box and putting in some stock mitsu oil...

gl-5 oil is baaaaaaad stuff...
i believe we should be using redline mt90

Yea I'm using Redline Shockproof (the blue "alien blood" lol) with a twin plate Quarter Master clutch with Tilton rally plates.

Makes a fucking lot of noise  8) But holds onto the ponies unlike my Exedy 5 puck which gave up after 1 month of abuse on 320kw atw.

if you have a problem with your gearbox and want a quick fix then i suggest you use the redline, i myself have personally called them to discuss the affects it has on synchro equipped boxes and have been told than they are not so designed for them, more so for dog-engaged type gearboxes. but in saying that, they also said that they use them on synchro equipped boxes and seem to run fine.

why dont you try NEO gearbox oil, ive heard they are better than redline and suited for synchro boxes too.

Redline oils are a good way to waste money and destroy your gearbox and driveline components.
;)

I'd definitely believe someone who has been repairing gearboxes for over a decade. That one area you cant fault MrGears advise :D

i believe that a GL5 rated oil is for dog boxes, since they dont use synchros to align the gears but rather blocks on the gear to align them, it causes more shock in the box when they engage. so i think this would be the only time redline would be used, which is also what PPG recommends to use in their dog boxes.

Hahahahaa thats a fact....... but you will still get noobs (with no research basis) posting its the shitznitz for stock evo boxes go figure

I think they just like the name and bragging rights and too lazy to research thoroughly

Well said though Lan spot on.

Good discussion, I had my Evo 1 gearbox pulled down and inspected when I had my clutch replaced last year at Techsport. I was actually advised to put Lightweight Shrockproof back into it after the pull down as the gearbox checked out fine with 100000km's on the clock and having used Lightweight Shockproof for about 50000 of them km's.

I have syntrans in my box, (early j-spec box too), shifts smooth like butter. Sometimes when it's realllllllllly cold it's hard to get into third the first time, but that's as bad as it gets.

i use the redline shock proof in my evo and have not had a problem with it

if anyone wants to speak to the folks at redline or has any product and application questions i can orgainise it as we sell redline at my work and i have orgainised training for my team of reps and also done supplier joint calls with the rep from redline.

was just curious as to what evo201 would say since he sells them so surely he would know more about the oil. :)

im changing mine today....

Ill now have shockproof in the Xfer and rear diff, and MTL/MT-90 in the box.

I have a great contact for redline oils, he also sells royal purple and European market Castrol stuff. :)
