Hey guys, did a search but couldn't find anything surprisingly as i'm sure it's been discussed before.....

Anyway, so i want to take the spare wheel and assembly off this w.e mainly to shed some weight and see how it handles without it.

To the guys that have done it, what's the quickest/easiest way to remove it. I've been told that the rear bumper needs to be removed. I've also read about some reinforcement bar in the bumper that quite a few of you have taken out shedding 15kg's or so?!?! That sounds like a winner, and i'll be taking that off if not too much of a drama.

Cheers in advance ;-)

P.s, if you're wondering, i'll be putting a space saver in the rear to replace the spare... just in case :)

Get a nimbus under frame for the rear and mount a proper size spare.

re: taking it off, I can't attempt as 'a' previous owner snapped the nut off that holds on the arm. so, dunno

I have that same issue. My old one had a small rear end accident I think which bent the sway arm at the pivot and wouldnt let us remove it.

You undo the phillips head when the arm is opened and you lift the frame up and it should slide off the pole that it looks to with the phillips head.
From there you get under the car and undo the bolts and bits holding on the mounting arm/pivot arm and that either drops down and out... or you have to take the bumper off to do it.

It's pretty easy to do yourself though

Don't know if he did the work himself, or knows how, but he's had the mod done.

also noted after reading syco's post, that he's actually done the mod, and a reported 45kgs was shed!
not bad.

Yep came across that link thanks Dan. rvr did a great job of comprehensively removing it. No explanation as to how tho, but the nimbus bar looks sweet to top it all off. And syco hasn't swung past here yet either.

Happy to wait and see what they did though....45kg of weight gone FTW!! Plus i'm guessing the spare (i have a 16" magna rim with 215 tyre) would be another 10kg or so kg.

55kg! Thats like carrying around a small person in your car constantly lol!! That'll be staying in the garage ;-)

Oh and nup, i'm happy with the space saver, how often in a cars life do we really need a spare?? MAX once every couple of years (i'll probably jinx myself now haha)

SW.

Oh, and i think i might have the same prob as u Dan...super gay!!!! There is no thread on the bolt to undo it so it slides off the pole like Matt explains to do...??

you'll have to carefully drill out the old bolt, incrementally using a larger bit, and ten re-tap, and put a new bolt in.
not too hard, but still annoying to do.

and yeah, a matter of removing the bolt and lifting up.

Remove the whole thing- Nimbus bumper FTW. The rear bumper just without the wheel etc looks like it sticks out too far. Kinda like an A-Spec GVR4
