Hey all,

I have the lower arms for the evo 1 out and I'm going to replace the bushings with polyurethane bushings. while they are out I was hoping to change the ball joints too.

does anybody have the part number I can use when I head out to the dealer to get a set of new replacement ball joints?

do the mirage/colt/summit have the same lower arm as the evo 1 and share the same balljoint?

Lastly how the heck do I change the ball joint? I took a glance and I have no idea how to press out the ball joint :fuuuuu:

thanks!!!

i think that you can get a certain type of ball joint and modify the arm to accept a joint with a circlip.

I can for the life of me remember what type of ball joint it was though, otherwise complete arms from mits as craig said.
(which is what i did too)

Oh that sucks!!! Being in Canada it's hard enough getting parts... To which I don't even know if it's even possible to get the lower arms...

Can anybody please provide me with the part numbers for:

1. Evo 1 lower control arm
2. Evo 2 lower control arm
3. Evo 2 sway bar
4. Evo 2 endlinks for swaybar

my car is officially on jacks until I can resolve this, I'm hoping the dealer can get these parts otherwise can somebody help me out? I will definitely pay for your help :)

it's too bad I couldn't get to your sale post earlier dougmo :(

thanks
ben

Please keep me posted!! Thanks!!!
Btw noticed your location says Canada, where about are you mate?

here are the part numbers:
FL lower control arm MB912951 (Evo1)
FR lower control arm MB912952 (Evo 1)

FL lower control arm MR162513 (Evo 2)
FR lower control arm MR162514 (EVO 2)

Front Sway Bar MR171042 (Evo 2)

Links for sway bar MR131680 (Evo 2)

I got these numbers useing mitsbishi ASA (same parts program your dealer will use) i used the japanese one and took the numbers i posted here and imputed them in the North American one and none of the numbers crossed over so i doubt the will be able to get u them. Altho one dealer in winnipeg does order parts from Japan. A few guys here have done it through the dealer it just takes some time. Your best bet is to google search the numbers and order from England or Australia. WAY faster than Japan.

you mentioned there is a dealer in winnipeg that does order parts. If I'm at no luck would you be able to help me out, of course I will pay you for your time and efforts :)

anywho, I'll head out to the dealer tommorrow with those part numbers and see if they can special order them for me from japan. if not I wont have great news when I update this thread :(

cheers!

PS I recall reading somewhere that there was a volvo that shared the same wishbone aka lower control arm as the evo 2-3... I believe it was a joint venture between volvo and mitsubishi at some point there for one of their cars.. not sure which one shared similar parts to which I can't confirm,, can anybody else? or am I just imagining things??

havent heard that before, would be interesting to find out

that does seem very possible. I did some research to find brakes for the evo 1 in canada and I did come across the volvo S40 shareign the same brakes in the rear. this is because in the UK the volvo S40 is a mitsubishi Carisma. In parts of the uk where the Lancer Evo wasnt offerd you could get a Carisma GT which was very similar in many ways. this could support your ball join/ control arm theory if u can call it that lol.

heres an update on my issue.

having searched far and wide and posting on uk forums to see if anyone could locate me some NEW arms for 1-3 I got no reply. I also went to the local dealer and I got the same response. No similar cars share the same parts neither could they locate me authentic JDM arms as they are apparently discontinued.

Which begs the question how are early evo 1-3 getting replacement arms/ball joints if they are discontinued?

my next alternative was to look at north american cars to which I discovered they mirage/colt/summit and volvo s40 shared a similar arm with subtle differences. Firstly the inside of the arm is not as well supported as the evo arm and the rear bushing is prefitted to the arm without a nut thread style to hold into place.

So now I have the mirage/colt/summit/volvo s40 arm in my garage awaiting to see if it fits, I will let you guys know how it goes. I'm waiting for the rear bushing bracket as its not the same, neither can I use the old evo arm bushing......

I would really prefer to use my old arms, perhaps just change the ball joint but I've heard of no one doing it. Or replace the entire arm with new authentic evo 1-3 arms but I can't locate any. I really wish there were some available arms out there or someone who could help me :(

It really irritates me that something so small is causing such a big stupid issue and all I really want to do is drive the dam car.

wish me luck guys.

peace

the new arms are still available through ralliart australia mate,

i bought some a little while back.

evo 1 has a pressed steel arm with a sway bar mounting point.

evo 2/3 has a cast steel arm with no provision for a sway bar.

those ones on rhd are for evo2-3 CE9A

found these if ur interested but I'm having my doubts they will work... http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm-low/Mit...ower-Arm-Assembly-CE9A-Lancer-Evolution-60448. If you do some reading about the changes from the evo1-2 they did change a few things with the control arms.

thank you for the link!!!! thats exactly what I was searching for. atleast I have a back up plan if I can't locate evo 1 arms. I was looking to upgrade to the evo 2-3 setup anyways so I need to start looking into sway bars and end links shipped here. hopefully I can come across those as well.

if you have any more links for the ce9a (evo2-3) please let me know. I don't know why I didn't bother checking RHDjapan but I'm soo glad you posted that link!!!

i think it may be a hassel to switch to the ce9a control arms. everything up front is different because of the changes mades to the control arms. the Struts are longer so u'll probably need those plus tracking down the new sway bar and links.
