Hey guys

Well I've got into a vr4 again ! :D

Something that shits me is that it's running very rich on idle ! my rotaries don't even run that rich on idle with 4x1700cc injectors ! It's got the usual mods, hybrid t3/4 (who knows but it's smaller than what I'm used too) 272cams, wolf v4, 750cc injectors and 3inch exhaust ! The car had a tune a short while ago, but I'm not happy with it ! It has a slight hesitation when I blip the throttle aswell but have gapped the plugs and it improved but it's still too rich IMO ! I want a car to cruise, when I want to go racing and smell like fuel I'll start the Mazda up !

The car makes good power  , but would like to put my touch on it ! A few things are getting change to make it the way I like ! Also want to get rid of the fully sic cannon muffler, and put in a oval varex muffler.
Other than that I'm happy for now !

Anyone recommend me a WOLF TUNER that knows 4g63's ? I think I will stop by Springy Motors on Monday maybe ??
Anyone recommend me a exhaust shop that deals with these types of cars and mufflers ?
In Melbourne

Cheers

If you plan to drop by Springy, they can also do mufflers / fabrication. Either you can supply the muffler or get them to supply it.

I've used the varex oval (twin tip) on my vr4 before and they are quite big!..
The oval single should fit but I can't be sure 100%.

Have a good look and measure before you commit to the muffler purchase.

As for tuning wolf, they've done plenty. I used to have wolf but have since converted to Autronic. The Autronic is the bomb!!
I always had issues with my wolf running rich also. Idle was horrible on mine too. I previously had 720cc injectors and it would always foul the plugs. With the Autronic I am running 1700cc injectors and it idles at .9lambda (approx 13:1 afr).

Post a pic of your ride!
Which one did you get?

the best advice I can give with a wolf....sell it

Mine wouldnt stay in tune for two days.....then again it was ancient.

have you got the software to have a look at the tune your self?

I'm running a single tip varex on mine and it doesn't seem to have any effect on power. It does sit a little low though as the chassis rail is directly above it. I'll see if I can get a picture if it stops raining!

Thanks guys for the input !

I would definitely like to see how low the Varex muffler hangs. I've been to performance exhaust in ringwood and David reckons I should go down to 2.5 inch for low noise which is what I really want. I'm just not sure about going smaller in exhaust size and how much affect it would have on the bit of power it has now ???

With the Wolf ecu I was hoping they could just pull some fuel out at idle, but I had more of a look and it does'nt run a 02 sensor either so it wouldnt have closed loop idle control which is something I would like it to have ! I was not planning on changing ecu's just yet but if I did I would like to run a haltech ps1000 either with a plug in loom or a full rewire ! Haven't dealt with autronic as they are not the best to use on a rotary even tho their features are on par with motec !

I have the hand controller for the wolf ecu but experience show's that I should leave the tuning to the people that know what they are doing ! If it was easy like taking some fuel trim out I would give it a go !

It seams like because the ecu is running on the map sensor only and with the bigger cams it finding it hard at to keep up at idle so compensates by dumping fuel in am I on the right path ?? I haven't dealt with cams and hipo 4's before !

Anymore info would be tops !

Cheers

If the wolf runs closed loop I would recommend running it, but in saying that if the tunes spot on you shouldnt need it at all. You shouldnt have a problem getting 100% more drivability than a ported rotor haha

 It's a lot more drivable than a 13bbp race motor yes, but not as much fun tho :)

It needs a 02 sensor to run closed loop which it doesnt have. I'll go and talk to some tuners tomorrow and work out what to do, I'm sure it just needs a clean up on the dyno !

Another question : engine mounts ? Mine are shot ! Where can I get urethane mounts from in aus ? I've searched abit but the links are dead !

Pics coming soon when I replace the batteries in my camera !

Cheers

First a newbie should never play with a ecu's hancontroller  i managed to faaarrrk the map up abit !

So i have plumbed in my lm2 wideband sensor so now i know what afr i'm working with !

Can someone have a look at these maps and tell me that there is something really wrong ??

The timing table looks pretty normal to me, im used to looking at ecm link tables which have the high load cells at the bottom not the top, so i have to invert my thinking, but looking at it it looks ok around the crusie zones and on boost it doesnt look overly aggressive. How much boost are you running? I can run 14-16 degrees on boost at 22psi. 10.5:1 - 11:1 afr.

Your afr table works by being mutliplyers not your afr targets (like ecmlink) so i cant see it off the top of my head without knowing the program and what the match are and what your logged afr's are.

Ok well i think ive found the problem !

One dying alternator  that explains why under 1100rpm it would run rich as a dog, it was all over the show today after setting up a good idle it would change again the lower the revs the less spark it had ! at idle it had about 9-9.6 volts even giving it a rev would not help ! Lm2 threw me error codes for low voltage aswell !

so picked up a new 95amp alternator just before and will install it tonight or in the morning :D

cheers
