Hey, just got a quick question on what temps people are running ?

Basically i've got a stock motor, and had a water temp gauge in for the last few months. I've noticed my car runs a lot cooler then all my mates. They're usually around 85 degrees, but i'm always on 68-70 degrees. I went to the track last week and i couldn't even get it over 72 degrees, with outside being around 22degrees.

If i let the car sit in 1 spot, i'll get upto 80 degrees, but as soon as it starts moving again it goes straight back down to 70. Only thing i've changed since i've owned the car is fitted a GMB water pump I got through Meek. Could it maybe pushing too much water through ?

I've never owned a car that runs so cold before.

Thanks
Pete

Waterpump will be fine. It is the thermostat that controls water flow through the engine.
Pull it out and test it, or change it out.
Is the dash gauge reading lower than the other guys too?
Maybe the temp gauge reads low and needs calibrating. You could put sender in boiling water and make sure it is 100*. ( assuming it is a mechanical one)

I'm not sure what temp the cold enrichment turns off, but maybe you are driving around with the ecu adding fuel like having the choke stuck on...

That's exactly what i'm thinking, if the car isn't getting to the correct temp it's definitely smashing fuel. I'm only getting close to 300-350 a tank which includes highway/town ( Australind/Bunbury/Busselton).

I'm pretty sure there's a thermostat in there ! Dash Gauge reads low too, if the water temp gauge says it's around 65 degrees it's still on pretty low. When it's at 70 it sits at about a 1/3. Gauge I have is electric so can't just pull it out. I'll keep looking,

Thanks for the replies guys.

Pete.

for the sake of it I would definatley check if you have a thermostat in there.
Even when warming the car up compare the top and bottom hoses to see if they are the same temp
or one is warm and one is cold

The colder you run the less efficient it will be on fuel (ECU has engine temp compensation tables).

A colder engine will use more fuel.

Thermostat would be the thing to look at.
Normal temp is approx high 80's to mid 90's.

You could even have a lower temp thermostat. I used to have one and i got rid of it because it would run too cold..

I thought I had a cold thermostat, I remember in my S13 when the thermostat cracked open the gauge would then go from 50~upto mid 80s, but on this is just rises. I haven't had a chance to get it out yet, hopefully will get it done this weekend. I too think the car is stuck in cold map.
