The day after I was telling a mate how reliable my car has been, the farken thing fucks out. It's true- bad things do come in 3's! :fuuuuu:

I noticed my car making some weird lifter type noises today at low rpm. The next time I started him up it started running REALLY poorly. Pinking/pinging on any type of throttle. I wanted to get home at least because I knew it sounded bad- crawled home and when I got there I tugged on the timing belt and the friggen thing is loose. Tensioner must have failed?? I guess they didn't replace it at 156kms (car has done 222kms now). The belt must have skipped some teeth?? :(

I'm really in 2 minds what I should do. Try replacing the belt/tensioner and praying there's no bent valves? I dont want to have to do the belt and tensioner on a head thats fucked. There's not much room to play with when it comes to 4G63's and skipping teeth- might just be a sign that it wants to be turbo!!!!

Anyone care to suggest what I should do?

You could be lucky mate!

Line up the timing belt again and get a leakdown test done on it before turning it over???

Otherwise, evo engine it!!

check how far out it is first, one tooth should only be 7.5 degrees from memory, it takes two usually to bend valves.
but as baz said, leak down will tell.

you cars still running..... means it hasnt shat a valve or slammed a piston into something.... just shove a new timing belt in......

Jay, Engines still run with bent valves, the valves just dont seal properly and move freely so it runs like shit. I'm thinking the ticking noise may have been valves kissing pistons. Like above. Line it all up, new belt and do some tests.
