Thanks for your contribution Tim. The info contained within this discussion alone has been a long awaited one for my mind.

No problem man! It should be public knowledge, as it makes people understand what it actually takes to make it shift and last a long time while handling ALOT of power.

hey guys, i love this type f full on tech stuff. i cant comment on the huge HP setups that some of these big drag cars run as South Aust is crap and hasnt had a rag strip for ages. anyway.

in the last few years i have had a bit to do with built dog boxes. mainly my mate has a WRX which normal has the glass gearbox. his was previously and has been rebuilt with dog engagement helicoil cut gears 1st to 4th from PPG. this car had seen the drags once apon a time. but has since seen the street for over 6 years and the last 2 with a exedy hyper twin plate clutch. this thing is daily driven, as in there is a rare day it doesnt leave the shed! i have driven it a couple of times now and i wouldnt like to drive it daily, just cause i am slack and hate double clutching and **** every time. but beside putting it into first everytime it gives a little clunck, he can drive it as smooth a any other car with a twin plate, the normal shudders and stuff which i get with mine. but when driven hard it can be slamed between gears with only a slight clutch kick and it hits gears hard, 240kw at all four and it spins them hard into second and even third at times.
have also been in sr20 s14 and rb25 r34 with 450hp at rears with the minor clunks and crunches here and there as the cars are usualy track driven. but can be streetable. ( i hate the whine and it is a skill to learn to drive).

one quick last one, few years ago i helped some guys with gearbox stuff that were from a place called "moderna" modna or something close to that, told they were huge in the rally scene and made some great gear. no one had anything from them?

have you tried rod hatfield in castlemaine? hes a bit of a guru when it comes to gearboxes i believe (possibly not jap stuff tho)

modena make some amazing stuff - alot of supertaxis have modena components.

they also cut a heap of gears for other boxes

yeh i know i also spoke to ppg today and found out some good things

main question i wanted to know was about wear.they said that depends on how the owner drives it
nicks black apc car has had the box in and racing for 3 yrs

i have some more info to barry that ill tell you if you want just shoot me a pm or give us a call
