Hey all, i was recomended this forum from performanceforums

Anyway, i'm having a bit of a problem with my GSR (2L engine conversion), i recently changed the oil (Castrol Magnatec 10w-40) and now its smoking black smoke.

It lets out a puff at startup, has a bit during idle, but is most noticable after revving the engine when it lets out another puff

I have a video of it here : http://members.optusnet.com.au/~os.mail/Vids/exhaust.avi (5.6mb)

Anyone know what is causing this, and what might need fixing?

Cheers guys

welcome to the forums dude...

i had the same prob with my E4 was letting out alot of black smoke on idle so i changed my sparks and leads and got the injectors flushed ..and that fixed it all ... hope that helps you out abit .

cheers Joe-ness

edit : the vid isnt working for me ..

Just thought i would add black somke is unburnt petrol not oil. But because it happened right after you changed your oil did you spill the oil anywhere?

And magnatec sucks IMO, dirty semi synthetic crap...

Way over fueling!

What injectors,ecu,afm have you got?

Have you had a tune because that is shit loads of smoke!

Is your airfilter blocked/clean?

Least its not Blue smoke

Do all the things joe-ness said.

I have used it every 5000kms in my car with NO worries at all.

......even if he did spill any around the engine bay why would black smoke be comming out his exhasut .....

and Magantec is the one of the most top oils to use for the VR4 4G63...

Hey thanks for the replies guys

I am actually going to replace the air filter tomorrow, so i will see if that changes anything, before the oil change i also changed the spark plugs, i used a different type, (from BP6EY to BP6RE) so now i'm wondering if it could be that..

The thing is though, before the oil change i don't remember this much smoke

I might change the leads and check the injectors tomorrow/monday also, i'll see how it goes

If you spill oil on your rocker cover, and it seeps down and clags up your spark plugs...Black smoke.

well buddy go lift ya cover off and you will see a ring around the hole...i believe this it to prevent the oil dripping down your spark plugs ..

Wrong plugs

BKR6E is for gsr's with 0.8 gap

Get top gun leads too.

Is that the same for the 4g63 engine? Because i'm not running the standard 4g93

Those are the spark plugs i use in my 1.8lt gsr.

The NGK website reccomends BP6ES's for the vr4 4g63, and a BP7ES for evo1-3 engines. What gap size are you running on the plugs?

Gap size is 0.8, and looking at the NGK site i see BP6ES-11, is that any different to BP6ES?

I'm pretty sure its a vr4 4g63 but honestly im not 100% sure :? How exactly do i check that anyway?

check the engine number
the rocker cover should be red and say dohc 16v 2l
and the timing belt is on the pasangers side im not sure if the 4g93s are but i know the 4g63 s are ur intake should also say cyclone :D

I meant i don't know if its a vr4 4g63 or evo1/2/3 4g63 lol

Also speaking of engine numbers, the 4g63 engine number is in the worst place ever :x, its so hard to see lol

The 11 at the end means that it's gapped to 1.1. So if you get those they need to be regapped down to what you want them to be.

 Over site on my part. Yes those spark plugs i use for my 1.8L 4G93.

Your probably right with those plugs as long as they are gapped like skankyjoe said> 0.8

you are right it is in a kunt of a spot what colour is your rocker cover evo 1-3 is silver i think post up a pic of you engin bay

Just watched your video. It is definately fuelling up and sounds as if it it struggles to run cleanly, lots of pops and farts = too much fuel.
I would check your airflow meter. Make sure you don't have the check engine light on.
Change the plugs and leads and if it still does it. I would say perhaps it could be something funny going on with you AF meter.
Good luck.
