the rca fuses are inside the head unit itself and arn't easily accessed. if it is only a ground loop a ground loop isolator MAY ( and i stress may) help.
the isolator is a little box that th rca's will plug into between the head deck and the amp.
Hrmmmm inside the HU ey... well I'll take the Head Unit out today again. Doubt its the unit, fairly new (panasonic), paid like $500 for it a few years ago :/
Don't really feel like spending more on a HU again... if thats the prob then ok, but I don't want trial and error
Prob should of got an alpine. Actually I just wanted my old Sony headunit (like high end 1995) to work but the EL backlight died, I had bought a new face for it, but it still wasnt working, I think the little black box that was connected to the HU was the power to the EL connector must of died instead. No one seemed to want to fix it.
I might add the noise/alternator hiss is really random, and only when the car engine is running, probably usually the first 1 to 60 seconds when you start the car, then disappears :S
I'll also check the ground wire, I know it isn't the best (wire where its crimped you can tell wires are broken) but still should have ground... I'll check with MM and re-crimp it anyway I guess.
As for the antenna, nfi, its the original wire etc, just got a new mask, still shitty. Its plugged in correctly.
I remember if you touched the antenna it would be "louder", so this has to be some sort of ground issue, probably is causing all my issues :S
Also amp is very old phoenix gold m50 (uses components, triple darlington transistors, I reckn the transistors are bit too old, hence when I turned the gain control, nothing was happening for a bit.
EDIT:
Checking the antenna with a MM, put it on ohms, touch inner pin of antenna lead and touch mask = nothing (no signal)
I touch the ground of the stereo chassis and the outter plug = working (ground)
Guess the antenna wire must be broken somewhere or something, unsure how that happens, but obviously not making connection with the antenna mask (slide it up/down already etc) :S
Looks like I'll buy the entire lead/antenna? But looks like a PITA job? :S
As for the ground crimp for the amp, screw is really tight, cant undo it, need maybe battery drill or something, then I could put a new spade and re-crimp it but yea, cant get the stupid screw out lol
cbf with all of it, bringing to car audio place when I can drive, dont wana break knee, only been 4 weeks and I'm undoing shit, on floor upside down etc
