Yet another example of a crap stainless steel manifold. Here's some pics I took of a mate's manifold in his 4G63T powered GSR a couple of days ago. I knew as soon as I saw it that it was one of the cheap Chinese items, even though the shop he bought it from denied it (pffft yeah right). I told him straight away to keep an eye on it and walah!! a little over 2 weeks later you get this \/ \/ \/ \/

Manifold: 4G63T Stainless Steel T3 flange (Looks identical to SSAutochrome & XS Power items with the 90 degree external wastegate adapter)
Time taken to fuk up: A little over 2 weeks.
Problem: Welds and runners cracking.
Pics: Top pic is number 4 runner showing some serious cracking in the runner. The other two pics are either side of the number 2 runner where it has cracked around the flange weld and in one spot has blown out a small hole.
Moral of the story: Dont buy the cheap@ss stainless steel manifolds with the thin runners (from shops or on EBay) or you'll only be throwing your money away and doubling your workload.

maybe he should of spent his cash on a stainless steel manifold gasket instead and stuck with the stock mani and turbo

There is a metal gasket there as you can see it in the pics. I saw all that grey stuff too but didnt say anything about it as all his engine build, mods and installation was done by a reputable workshop popping out several quick sub 10 second street/drag cars. This is why I'm a bit surprised about the choice of manifold.

Never use silastic and the like before the O2 sensor....

there is silastic that is blue in color that you can use before the o2 :)

also.. even if the car came from a good shop.. you cant tell customers what to buy lol.. if they want it they will buy it.. so i guess the shop just did what the customer wanted and put it on.
problem with those manifolds IMHO is not the thickness of the material but the lack of bracing..

Jon

not only is that manifold dodgy
but i dunno who this reputable shop is, but thats a fkn terrible install job... thats something id expect myself to do with no experience!

Agree with Jon.

No bracing will stress/flex and cause the manifold to break

please tell me what is actually wrong with that install?

they used factory metal gasket and chose to use silastic.. instead of copper spray or nothing at all..

Jon

:( The Chinese manifold saga, the material they use is way to thin, stainless doen't flex like mild steel does when it gets hot thats why they crack.

I paid a little extra and got good materals.

Hopefully once braced it shouldnt crack

Fingers crosssed
