Targa events and stroking motor

Hey guys,

For those in the know, do targa event regulations allow motors to be stroked?

Have a friend with a 2.3L stroker that wants to compete in Targa but we believe this is against regulations (remember reading this somewhere but can't find the source).

M27. Engine Internals Allowances
i. Mechanical treatments are allowed to be made to the crankshaft and connecting rods (shot peen / chemical
and heat treatment)
ii. Pistons are free.
iii. Cylinder overbore 1mm is permitted.
iv. Cylinder head inlet and exhaust ports may be modified only by the removal of metal.
v. Valve train components, including camshafts, are free provided the number of valves and their method of
actuation (OHV, OHC, and DOHC) is retained.
vi. Ancillary pulleys and drive belts are free.

Geo&Kez posted somewhere in his thread that he would have to build a 2.0L to compete in Targa as his 2.3 won't be allowed.

Yeah, short answer is no.

We might get away with it this year in Targa West because they are running a rookie class where things seem more relaxed (it's only the sat and sun with a different class structure). Targa South West they let us run because it's 'non-competitive'. But if your a chance of making the top ten in any targa they will chuck the rules at you and disqual you.

Most Targa events now can run 'Octagon' rules which which are slightly different but I think still the same for strokers. We have a issue with our brakes as well, no go with 3000gt clappers on a GSR/EVO.

Other things to keep in mind that could blow a budget, HANS is mandatory, and fire bombs in post 2000 cars is enforced. Must also have rallsafe computer hardware installed. I had to throw a few grand at Hans and brain bucket, just to do TSW this year. I have a spare 2.0 crank ready if we ever want to chuck $5g at a Targa weekend.

Well with a 302 vs 351 they use a glorified bit of wire. Plugs out, rotate engine by hand, mark tdc and bdc.
In the case of a g63 it would be easy to tell the difference between 88mm and 100mm.
Only test if you start winning.

You don't need to be winning or anywhere near a front runner to fall into being a candidate for stroke testing, @ TT last year they stroke tested every Evo in the field regardless of placing.
For both Early modern and modern the Evos fall under the LMS category...
