TD05H 16g / 18g / 20g???

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

OK i'm running the 4g63 but i had a small 16g TD05(E2)
went to the 20G after much procrastinating and suol searching,
Well WOW lag is certainly there but i make 17psi @ no later 4000rpm in 1st and 2nd
and 3500rpm in any other gear ... now that gives 4000 rpm worth of usable power.
remember .... When you are coming into a corner you should be in the gear for that corner so rpm is going to be around that 3500 mark! so boost is good .. power is good .. you smile and you get that nice warm feeling inside.

(this is not normal street driving) well for some it might be?

if your exhaust is 1/2 decent boost shouldn't be too laggy (dump pipe)

GT Pumps did mine (off the shelf) it is worth it!

and if you have aftermarket ECU you can time it up abit to come in earlier.
even better .. adj cam gears .. move it down the rpm range.

Just don't go AEM cears (long story) my opinion.

Giday Mark! didn't even see your post before i posted!

I will back up GT Pumps Claim! I have one and it is GOOOOOD!

and it is repairable not like some BB and RB units!

speaking to someone who has done it.. they said it makes boost around 3500rpm til about 5000rpm..
Jon

Our 20G's don't do that

Well then Paul (Bcnya) isnt telling me the truth cos he said he has one of yours and it isnt making boost til around 3500rpm.

*shrugs*

Jon,
Paul's (BCNYA) dyno sheet is my web site, unfortunately it does not show boost but max power is about 6000 RPM, it's certainly not running out of steam at 5000 RPM as you suggest??? That's the whole point of the 20G more top end 8)
Also remember his car has stock cams.

JETGSR in his post above describes it perfectly.

Yes Jon you loose a little bit of spool down low, but not as much as you think.

Mark.

I wasnt saying that the turbo would die at 5000rpm.. just saying that is when you get the 20psi you wanted.. I do have HKS camshafts but i dont have an aftermarket ECU like Paul's so its fair to say we are almost playing on par ground with our turbo combo's.. im also running a factory mitsubishi 070 which is in ok condition.. Paul's running a cast 070 rear end which has been ported and got a bigger flapper.... For anyone that doesnt know im running a factory chipped ecu.. as you can tell from my dyno run the mixture's are abit rich..

Id be interested to see how everything works out. I might try the 20G setup once the 16G runs out of steam up top.. not sure when.. might try some other funky combo... but that is to be decided upon later once i fix my car up..

damn head gaskets.

ok well with my old t25 turbo, it was fairly laggy in a way... when i lauched it... it was full boosting straight away... but i think thats the same for heaps of turbos... only prob was when i was going to 6000rpm it kinda didnt feel like it had power still...

my car is right to rev up to 8000rpm... so want i want from my car is full boost around 3500-4500 no lagger... like someone said before... when comming to the corner u should be in a low gear so the revs r high being in boost still... but my aim is 12 sec car, having over 200kws at the wheels... i'll try the 20g n let ppl know about it...

i have a aftermarket computer as well...
mind u my turbo n fuel setup wont be getting done till november/december some time...

Thanks for the posts...

A Stock TD05 16g with 7cm? housing will support that no worries. Hell do I need to mention my power figures again on stock GSR internals and NO tuning at all? I dont see the point in going to any un-needed expense or cause slightly worse drivability (lag) when its not nessesary. In saying, I have a mate with a Steve Murch - MSE built TD05/06 22g Hybrid on his 4G63 and he reckons it behaves like a stock turbo but pulls harder in the higher revs.

OK, what turbo setup would you guys recommend for a 2.3 stroker? I've got a big16G on the 2.0 which I was planning to carry over to the new 2.3 engine but have been considering a turbo upgrade to take full advantage of the extra engine capacity.

I love how the big16G feels on the 2.0, but I want something a little more exciting on the 2.3 without the lag.

Any suggestions/info like that in this thread would be much appreciated.

with a 2.3ltr you will be moving more gas so "in Theory" you will make boost earlier but you may run out of efficiency on the exhaust side up top.

I still as some of us have said go the 20g
The added torque of the 2.3 will more than make up for the small (if any) lag that may be present, while still gaining the top end power.

But the fact you are spending the coin on the stroker I would probably look at a full external gated turbo and decent wastegate.

It really all comes down to $$$ how much you want to spend and when you want to stop

How much is ENF?

since we are on the turbo topic now, how much boost can the small 16g handle (E2)??

i noticed that once i wound the boost up, the turbo seems to whine and scream, is that normal??

currently using the greddy type s boost controller.

i ran 20psi thru mine on mobil synergy 8000.. netted 12.44 @ 112mph from memory. it shouldnt whine and scream... it might be doing that cos maybe you have a bent compressor fin.

Whats the rest of the setup?

ECU?
Fuelling?
Forged Internals?

A well sorted 2.3 will make short work of a big Garret ballbearing like a GT3540 with the right support mods.

* At the moment I'm planning on running the factory VR4 ECU. When the $$$ allow I'll be looking at either a Wolf3D or even a chipped EVO ECU.
* Bosch044 fuel pump with EVO9 560cc injectors
* Eagle rods and CP pistons, ARP studs/bolts
* Ported EVO cylinder head and match ported EVO intake manifold
* Standard valves
*272/272 cams
* Stainless tubular exhaust manifold for Big16G

DOH! Ah well. Guess I gotta start saving for that now too.... :(

Am considering going a Wolf3D anyway, might as well spend the extra coin to take full advantage of the engine setup.
