hi guys,

does anyone know how hard it is to replace the timing belt tensioner pulley? can the pulley be replaced without taking the whole timing belt off?

the pulley is making a sound that sounds something like a lawn mower...

the timing belt was replaced 36,000kms ago along with the pulleys and tensioner. bit surprising the pulley is packing it in this soon....

You could do it... just get a bunch of cable ties to hold the belt to the relevant parts (cam gears, oil pump, crank and then push the tensioner in with the special tool. This should give you enough slack to loosen the pulley and then replace!...

Then release the tensioner and take off all cable ties hopefully keeping the teeth / timing in the same postion...

Double check all marks prior to starting though... also count the teeth between the cam gears (before and after to make sure its the same)...

if you do it like Baz is saying, hand turn the engine atleast 10 rounds to make sure its still free before you fire it up

Yes it can be done but take all the bullets out of your gun before playing russian roulet , if its been replaced 36k ago I very much doubt that the tensioner bearing was replaced in the first place maybe chase up the workshop that did it for you? if you didnt replace it yourself!

Are you sure it is the pulley? GSR motors are good at having the whole harmonic balancer bolt come loose and fuck up the crank etc if the bolt wasnt done up tight enough when the belt was done.
