Taken from: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/02/report-mitsubishi-official-says-evo-franchise-is-dead/

According to Gayu Eusegi, head of global product development for Mitsubishi, the Lancer Evolution X will be the last Evo the Japanese automaker ever builds. Eusegi says the move is part of a shift in strategy to put the company's product focus and ethos on leadership in EV technology.

To that end, Autocar indicates that Mitsubishi will release eight fully-electric or hybrid-electric cars by the time 2015 rolls around, and make a grab for a big portion of the CO2-reduction market share. It goes without saying that the fun-yet-fuel-swilling Evo just doesn't fit that mindset, particularly since it apes a rally car that no longer exists.

Despite the Evo's huge popularity, Mitsubishi apparently isn't scared of the step and says it's confident that consumers will glom on to the idea and rally behind the brand. By killing the Evo, they're making their intentions plain to an increasingly environmentally-conscious car-buying public.

Eusegi killed dead any notion that the brand would roll out a performance-oriented hybrid as well. "Maybe the world can change, and maybe someday we can do a motor race by electric vehicles. Maybe then we can enter the market agian," he said.

This report of the Evo's death would seem to stand in contrast to multiple reports that an Evo XI is in the works with a hybrid drivetrain. We're taking this latest Autocar missive with a few grains of salt, as we can see how Eusegi may have simply meant that an Evo that relies exclusively on internal combustion is dead – a hybrid Evo would seem to offer a nice technological bridge to Mitsubishi's more electrically minded future. Hat tip to Dennis!

sorry if this a repost

Yeah they use a 4b11
Plus our cars might soon get some more value :)

Maybe if you owned an EVO?

Surely they won't be making 1 EVO using the X body shape? They did say "by 2015" which is quite a few years off yet....

Well what makes an Evo an Evo. Is it the engine. The shape. The drivetrain. Or the car in general

Just because the current evo x don't have a 4g63t doesn't mean it isn't a evo. It is still a 2lt dohc turbo awd 4 door sedan, with all the same electronics that u would find in a older evo...

To me the greatest thing for me was parking my Lancer evolution next to a evo x with about 20 years difference between them coming out of the factory. was a great experience seeing the differences between the 2. Also seeing a original sigma turbo which is were mits really started there turbo power cars from was a eye opener...

Gianni Ur coupe technically isn't a evo but other has evolved from a lancer to what it is today...

I think it took people alot to like the evo 10! The looks are way out there and changing the engine that they have gone with for nearly 15 years was a disapointment. For me I think the 10 should have been an angry version of the 9 or a 2 door version of the 9 similar to what Subaru had with there 2 door sti. Must say they are slowly growing on me though!

ah well... world is going to end in December 2012 anyway right?
You can make an insanely quick and torque monster of an electric car. Go for it Mitsubishi! B)
(Mitsubishi Electric.... if you've got it, flaunt it)

Chaser. I know I don't have an evo. He he he. It was a joke. Evolution as in adaption. Similar meaning but adaption isn't quite evolution

my bet is on no more evo's as we know them.

20bucks says a hybrid of some description wears the evo name in the future

they are still going to put out a evo , but its not going to be numbered like the others , it was meant to start from the evo X , I'm pretty sure it was going to be called a revolution from memory and stay that way

the evo x has the chassis code CZ4A , where all the other Evos are CD9A ,CE9A, CN9A, CP9A, CT9A ,

the evo x is still a weapon and very easy to make it really crazy fast , I see alot of these getting 280 - 300wkw without much work at all

Yep, I've been in an Evo X running 2 bar with a stock engine.

I think they failed to mention that Evo X is "the last Evo" - Running on ULP. Japan seems to be going the Diesel route and rumours also say that the next STi will be on Diesel.

We'll just have to wait and see.
