Okay, I'm new here, and also new to mitsubishi's. I've spent the last year or so on s13's, Sr's and RB's. I've seen a couple drift days, etc, but I bought a gsr a while ago for a change, and I have no idea about the pro's/con's with these cars and their engines. so, onto the questions

What's the max boost a 4g93 is capable of running on stock internals? Are there any parts that should be replaced/kept a close eye on if running more boost?

I hate that damn ticking noise. Something to do with the lifters/valve springs, or something like that. How do I FIX the problem, I don't want a temporary fix (ie change oil) i wanna get rid of it all together. How much would it cost? could I do it myself with a few directions? (pretty technically minded, not scared to take off the rocker cover :p)

I NEED some suspension work done. Sway bars, coilovers, etc. I'm in brisbane, who supplies this sorta stuff? Can't find anyone local! I can do all the suspension work myself, seeing its all pretty much bolt on stuff. whiteline maybe?

I heard GSR gearboxes are fairly strong in relation to a wrx one. how strong are they really? and why the hell does my gearbox crunch when it hasn't been on for a while, but once i've been driving for a bit, it NEVER does? dirty oil maybe? synchro's on the way out?

is anyone elses clutch sticky? i got a HD one, but not sure if its just that or something else.

my brakes kick ass compared to my s13. lol. (not a question, just wanted to say it. hehe)

NOW! Onto oils. what oil am i supposed to use? 10w40? 100% synthetic bad? good? i'm using motul something o rather, 100% synthetic, the ticking noise got a little louder, assuming its a lot thinner of an oil and probably not the best thing to use :S Not gonna drive it again until i get a good answer from someone. got some 10w40 turbolite here just in case.


If I was going to get a rebuild, and was gonna be stingy about it, what are the most important things to replace? (what is weak on this engine)

Why does my car only hit full boost at 5000rpm? i have a microtech, could it be tuned to be like that or do i have a fierce boost leak :S

i've only owned the car for a few days so i'm gonna sort out every little problem it has reguardless of cost. i love this thing :D

Serious dude, there is SO MUCH info on this forum that all you have to do is click "search" type in OILS for example and select the GSR/EVO1,2,3 search section and off you go.

Seriously you could literally spend hours in here looking for it and you will!
I GUARANTEE you will find the answers to 99% of your questions that are spinning around your head ATM. :lol:

Around 16-18psi safely with the toothpicks 4g93's come with for rods. 4g93 parts are very expensive compared to 4g63 parts as they're in much lower demand. But you can replace these with scat rods, coupled with a multilayer headgasket (cometic or similar) and be able to run 20-24. You WILL NEED to get rid of the td04 and replace with a td05. And a bigger intercooler.

Plenty of people on this forum who can point you in the right direction, go through the whiteline catalog and figure out exactly which part numbers you want (www.whiteline.com.au) and go from there. PLENTY of coilover options, check the for sale section or read the 100 other threads on it.

No gearbox will ever shift cleanly when it's cold. There's no oil on the gears, it's all dripped to the bottom. You need to drive you car a couple of blocks to get the oil moving around. To shift into reverse, put it in second and then reverse and it won't crunch.

Check your master/slave cyl for air. Bleed your clutch. If you've still got the problem, check your release bearing and clutch fork for damage.

10w30 depending on the condition of your engine. What's the compression? 10w40 is a pretty common oil as well. 15wanything is too thick.

Rods, headgasket past 18psi. Main Bearings, remove balance shafts, ARP head studs.

Turbo damage or intake leaks. Probably both. Solution is to toss the td04, replace with a td05 14b, 16g or similar and get an e1-3 manifold. All can be had here 2ndhand pretty frequently for low $$.

Most of these questions are already answered with the search button, but i'm doing this as a tell-all answer.

You can run as much boost as what your car can handle. Its all up to your tuner.

On a stock engine, stock engine management etc, I wouldnt run more than 1bar.


Ive seen someone get their lifters replaced, only for the lifters to be noisey again in 2 weeks. I've found that an upper cylinder lubricant called Proma MBL8 works a treat.
 
lol, I did do a fair bit of searching, and didn't really find exact answers to what i was looking for. Thanks for all the help guys :D

now, first things first, find some coilovers. lol.

4g63 manifolds dont fit on 4g93 unfortunately.. or not that im aware of anyway..
 
4G63 manifolds wont work on the 4G93.

There is a company OR 2 in NZ who are making SS tubular manifolds for the 4G93 for reasonable prices too.
 
already got a TD05h just not sure exactly which one. Taking it into the shop tomorrow to get it looked at. My tappets stopped making noise!!! :D I put some additive crap in and it worked after 500k's. strangely, it says on the bottle it takes that long too so all is good with that.

still looking for coil overs, still need to fix boost thingie etc, but slowly getting there.
 
already got a TD05h just not sure exactly which one. Taking it into the shop tomorrow to get it looked at. My tappets stopped making noise!!! :D I put some additive crap in and it worked after 500k's. strangely, it says on the bottle it takes that long too so all is good with that.

Just a word of warning, THIS MORNING, my mate snapped a rod @ 15psi in his 4g93t... those rods are CRAP .... just CRAP..... get a 4g63t or spend a fair bit on the 93!

u sure it was 15psi ?? im running 17psi with a big16g and have done so for nearly 9 months and have had no problems
