Hi guys. At the front of a stock EVO is a large caged off thermo fan/aircon fan that has a 3-wire triangular plug on it. I have removed this fan because of its height and purchased a slimline 12" thermo to go in its place.

The replacement thermo fan only has 2 wires though. I've retained aircon so is there a way to hook this up or is it only going to be a dedicated thermo or dedicated aircon fan now?

I have a dedicated 10' thermo fan on the radiator inside the engine bay.

Cheers.

I looked into this when i did the same. From the reading that i did, the aircon fan and thermo fan work in conjunction with each other. It appears the standard radiator is very ineffective. There are speed sensors and a bunch of other variables (temp of course) that determine whether one/both fans are on.
My plan was going to be install a box with a simple circuit (diodes) and wire the original wiring to the box, then convert that to the two wires on the thermo fan.
I think the easiest solution is to simply get an aftermarket temp sender (with the adjustable temp relay) and simply wire this in, then set the relay up to switch on once the motor reaches operating temp.

Bryce.

I'm running a Haltech E8 with the patch loom and thats why I was asking as i wasnt sure if the E8 has complete control over the wiring that controls that fan or not. Maybe I'll just leave it up to the tuner. It would be good if the E8 controls switching for it to that level (not sure how much control there is on the patch loom), but if not and all else fails I suppose wiring it into the rear thermo means both thermos switch on when it reaches a certain temperature.

I'm pretty sure the patch loom for the E8 will control it out of the box mate (it does for the later evos). It's trivial to set up if it doesn't anyway.

just use a PWM output from you haltech (check the manual for pin out)
and neg switch a relay to drive the fan
then just set the the temp you want it to switch on and off at in the options/aux output menu

just make sure the fan is wired to go the correct way (no good sucking if it needs to blow!)

but you can only neg switch from the haltech! !!!!!!!

Isnt there 3 wires as it is a two speed fan? Like one wire will go thru the massive resistor to slow it down for speed one and the other wire will be flat out for speed two with the third earth?
