tips for geetting a turbo to spool faster

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

yeah i was looking at the eboost street offers most of the feature of an eboost 2. i just like the all in the cup interface of the eboost2

went to set the timing and the knick in the balancer is a good 90' off the timing marks what could cause this?

Adjust the Cas and you should see it move towards the markings :) I need to reset mine too. I think it's on the second marking. Anyone know what marking it's meant to be on.

i run out of adjustment long before it gets even close.

i'll get the dyno tuner to advance/set the timing on the dyno.

anyone wana sell their 6cm vr4 housing or swap for the evo 7cm must haave no cracks and good flapper

leave the 7cm, im running the 7cm on my 4g93...its on full boost by 4200, and ive only got adjustable cam gears, everything else is stock. the turbo manifold has been machined to suit.
it should go heaps better with a good exhaust, intercooler, cams and a tune...

What you on about??

It should be on the line between the "T" and "10"

You should easily get it there

with cylinder 1 at btdc the nick int he harmonic balancer that is used to set the timing is facing the front of the carand does not come even close to lining up with the timing mark while running. i can turn the cas all the way in both directions and it never even comes close to the range as marked by the cover. strange i know dunno why but thats the way it is.

i'm going to have the balancer swapped when i pull the engine to put the gear in. but should be able to get the dyno tuner set the optimum timing while it's on the dyno

You probably have the timing cable on cylinder 4 :p

Remember 1 is closest to the timing belt and 4 is closest to your CAS

yes i know that :) i even made sure it was cyl 1 btdc by removing the rocker cover and sticking a screwdriver down the plug hole so i could see the top of the stroke and the balancer timing mark was pointing at the rad. i don't think this balancer was the one specifically for this motor could that be why they don't line up?

i've got a spare here so when i get time i'll put that on on and check it

I got a vr4 housing and a Evo 1 housing bro. But they have some cracks so they are there as a last resort for you man :)
But you'd probs be better off sticking with standard housing instead of them

Yea, it may be the wrong balancer, either that or the outer ring of the balancer has walked around on the rubber, this can happen as the rubber gets older.
You could remark the tdc, but it pretty hard to do and it will keep moving as well

I take it by your description, that the timing has been advanced? Advanced timing, so long as there is no knock/detonation, will make the car quicker, not slower.

By all means sort your timing out, as it's not really a good idea to have it out, but I'd still be looking elsewhere for the cause of your spool issues.

ok so i just got back from the dyno.

the car/engine with fwd box made a max power figure of 187.3 hp (139.6 kw) so it's certainly not down on power over stock since stock they make 142 kw at the fly later jdm one made up to 200 kw so on the front everythings ok

3 issues he pointed out
1 running lean on the top end. (pump probably maxing out) words of advice to all those running evo 1/2 and cc gsr CHANGE YOUR PUMP! it's the same as the std lancer 1.8 so go bigger
2 the boost curve 10 psi by 4500 problem it keeps on going up to 14 psi! not such an issue to me but chance are it'll just keep on going (that 2 turbos i've had on wastgate press that have gone well over 10 pound) his solution ported wastgate flapper
3 the clutch slipped at 5600

else according to everything it's fine

Not a bad figure, i made 153.4kw at the fronts standard on a 2ltre, so thats pretty good

As for pumps, info below, the N/A lancers were 60l/h im sure

* GSR/Evo 1 fuel pump capacity = 80 l/h
* Evo 2/3 fuel pump capacity = 100 l/h
* Evo 4 fuel pump capacity = 120 l/h
* Evo 5/6 fuel pump capacity = 150 l/h
* Evo 7/8 fuel pump capacity = 180 l/h
* Evo 9 fuel pump capacity = 220 l/h
