Hey guys ATM my car is running a really old motec m4 and am going to get the car tuned soon to suit my new setup so I have been tossing up if I should update my ecu but is it really worth it.
The way I see it is well basically my car can still be tuned to make good power but newer ecu's seem to have some good options like anti lag/ launch control on the haltechs. So my question is does anyone think its worth the upgrade and what would it be worth upgrading too?

Will you use any of the additional functions that the M4 doesn't have? Way I see it, if the M4 does everything you want it to do and the car drives the way you would expect it to, you don't need to spend the $$$ on another ECU - spend them on better tyres/suspension etc.

I used the antilag/launch feature of the ecmlink a few times. got over it pretty quickly and have now switched it off.

too much driveline stress and wheel spin.

m4 can have anti lag and launch control.
just enable it if you don't have it.
purchase the un locking code from motec and you will have more features.

m4 advanced features basically.

only reason i see for going to a newer ecu is for beter control over fuel maps etc and maybe even flex fuel and possibly beter controls for everyday things like ac etc

Some good points here might look into getting the anti lag unlocked and see how we go. I don't mind the ecu itself as even I can make basic changes to get it idling right without a idle control valve. See how the tuner goes with it I guess

At this stage I'm goin to let them do the pump fuel tune on it and see how they go if I'm not happy I will take it down to brissy

Touching on this again I think I might bite the bullet and go for a haltech been looking at the options like fuel flex sensor and the isc valve seems a pretty good thing. I have taken all advice offered in this thread and basically spending the money elsewhere there isn't much that isn't modified on my car. Any advice on what haltech to get wire in or plug in? I'm running a m&w pro14 cop ignition setup as well

I'd say minimum haltec ps1000 that's what I'm getting to run my new engine combo. Had all the output/input you could need. For cars like ours

m84s are a lot cheaper these days with some good options unlocked out of the box

ps1000 are pretty decent though

Yeh mates got a 530kw wrx and it runs great for a streeter was impressed at the drivability and prob use his tuner on mine too

Yeh think I'm pretty much sold on the haltech for its price it seems like a good option since I want to squeeze very last kilowatt out of my combo till it goes bang

with a wideband the new haltech can preety much tune themselves. punch in a afr for a given load and the ecu tries to match it

my mate has an E8 sittin in his shed he'll part with, think it has the Pnp loom also with it

My brother and myself will be getting rid of ours in the future when we decide to go the P1000
