Transfercase help!!!

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Response from my email the other day. I asked them to see if they can get an estimate for shipping cost if i send them a transfer case.
Via Australia Post to send a complete transfer case to them in a box will weigh about 15Kg.
Price to ship a transfer case from here to Illinois USA is $255 Air Mail, or $265 Express Post International with signature on delivery.

Ive also asked if its viable to just send a steel casing of the transfer case only (instead of complete transfer) to exchange for one of their machined steel casings. I can rebuild the transfer myself if theiy only machine the front casing and add their upgraded parts in it.
Will let you guys know.

Rob,

Thanks for your email and for visiting our website. We do offer an a 300M T-case upgrade service for DSM's. We would need a good core for this rebuild as we don't have any available. This core would have to include the cast front cover as that is the only one we can do this upgrade on. The process typically takes about 5-6 weeks. The pricing for the T-case upgrade is $875, plus bearings (if needed depending on the condition of the core you send in) and shipping costs. We do have some pictures and information on our Facebook page -
https://www.facebook...&type=3

Unfortunately we don't typically offer international shipping as we don't have the personnel needed to handle the demand. We can get into contact with the shipping company that we use to see if we can get some pricing together for you, if you're interested in the T-case upgrade, but you would be responsible for all customs documentation and costs.

If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

How about a group purchase?

Purchase a bunch of old xfer cases from the USA, have them modified and I can get them sent down here via water.
It will be heaps cheaper but may take 3 months.

i just want the 300M output shaft and a new/matching drive shaft yoke, could prob get the case machined locally

I bought a shep transfer case late last year. It's not $1750 as advertised wish it was same deal with core needed but he can sort it out.

Pretty sure PPG make sheps gears and shaft... It's also bigger than a power glide shaft.

When the guys say pre load drivetrain I would suggest doing it aswell.. It's the shock load that breaks the cases and shaft you might shatter your new case and bend the par shaft in the process! The case is the part holding it all straight and in place.

I'm buying a tilton clutch for the very reason to pre load the drivetrain, vr4's are boats!

I'm also interested in the 300M shaft and bits on their own will get machine work done here for another spare!

UPDATE - SOUNDS PROMISING IF WE CAN JUST BUY THE PARTS WE NEED TO BEEF UP OUR TRANSFER CASES BOYS!!!
WILL KEEP YOU IN THE LOOP

Rob,

We're till waiting to hear from our rep at our shipping company regarding an estimated price to get these T-cases to you in Australia. Our rep has been on vacation but he will be back later this week. We are sorry for the delay.

To help with shipping costs, what we can do is send you just the 3 items needed, and you can put the T-case together. These parts would be the tail shaft housing, pinon gear and shaft, and the ring gear. Since we aren't building the T-case, but simply sending you the parts needed, there is no warranty coverage.

Let us know what you'd like to do while we wait to hear back regarding shipping.

Hi
Just the supply of the 3 items required sounds like a good option.
Would any part of the transfer casing require further machining or this is basically what is needed?
It’s OK about no warranty as I have good experience with rebuilding transmissions and gearboxes for the early W5M33 Mitsubishi transmissions and transfer cases.
Anticipating your response when you hear back from your shipping company.
Regards
Rob.

Sounds promising....Im guessing the shipping will be exxy but. Will be good to know a total inc shipping once they get their act together!!

Ive had shit sent by sea before. At first it seemed like it would be cheaper at the expense of taking a longer lime to get here. In the end I had to end up getting fumigation done, engage the services of an agent, pay minimum charges, admin fees plus a trip to Sydney to pick up my item. Fuk, aint nobody got time for that. lol. Im never getting anything shipped via boat again. Small parts can come over by plane easy enough :)

I totally agree. Airfreight isn't that bad. UPS are pretty reasonable. I had a full set of 17" rims sent out of California and I think I ended up paying a little over $200.00 aud. that included tracking and insurance and they were delivered to my door within 10days of payment

Update... just waiting response - sent a reminder the other day.

There shouldn't be any additional machining needed, but it's hard to say for certain as we're not building these T-cases and shipping them to you to be able to ensure that everything fits properly in the core you have.

The shipping cost would be around $199 (US dollars) per shipment to send everything to you from the States to Australia.

Thanks BP

I guess that leaves the price for just supply and delivery of the 3 main parts required for the transfer case upgrade.

Price for the 3 main parts required to upgrade a transfer case = $ ???
Price for shipping of said 3 parts to Australia = $ ???

Price for transfer case upgrade (supplied by customer) = $875
Price for complete transfer case postage to Australia = $199
Total price of rebuilt transfer case posted to Australia approx: $1,074 (when customer supplies a good transfer case for modification).

This information will pretty much help me spread the word down here to inform our guys.

cheers

Rob

I was browsing dsmtuner the other day and they were saying that if they back off in time before destroying the extension part of the transfer case. The damage is often confined to the cast pinion bearing cover. They offered a billet bearing cover and failures have plummeted.
I dont think it was english racing, but someone of similar repute (and speed)

more of an update.....

Me: Hi BP, Just wondering if you had a chance to work out the cost of shipping just the 3 parts required to Australia yet?

BP: I am sorry for the confusion, but we do need to clarify some pricing per your email inquiries. The $199 price we quoted you in the last email is for shipping just the three parts that you asked for, to try to help make the costs of everything easier on your end. Those 3 parts are the tail shaft housing, pinon gear and shaft, and the ring gear. That $199 shipping rate is not for an entire T-case, which would cost a lot more to ship. We do not offer international shipping at this time as we do not have the personnel to handle this demand. (All taxes/custom fees are the responsibility of the buyer.) So we would not be able to ship you a complete T-case, but to try to help accommodate you and your needs, we offered to ship just those 3 parts to you. You would then have to assemble the T-case once you've received those parts from us. The $875 price is for T-case rebuild orders placed within the Continental US, and requires the customer to ship us a good, usable, core. Hopefully this help to clarify things, but if you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Me: Thanks for that and I really appreciate you offering to ship the 3 parts and that shipping of those parts to Australia is estimated approx $199.
Have you worked out a price you will sell the 3 parts for yet?
That way I can estimate total cost for a set of the 3 parts + shipping to Australia.

[waiting.... will follow up later in the week (they probably are just determining a suitable price in the meantime before advising me)]

Ok guys, here you go....

* The price for the Tail shaft housing, pinion gear and shaft, and ring gear is approximately $860 US, plus shipping.

* The shipping price (for the parts mentioned above only) is $199 US.

So they want to charge the same price for supplying the parts only as they would if they were to actually rebuild and fit the parts into a transfer case!!!.
(make your own judgement on that one).

Either way, it's OVER $1000AU in value including shipping and therefore subject to the additional cost of 10% GST, 15% Tariffs and other associated administration and import fees.

Whats surprising is that they charge $875 to rebuild a transfer case with the new upgraded strong internals.
Then they want to charge us $860 just for the parts only + $200 shipping.
How good are you guys at Wheel of Fortune?
See if you can guess this one.
