For those of you who have trimmed your vinyl dash panel - what have you used and how did you do it? I've got a tin of spray adhesive I purchased from Spotlight some years back when I was going to do a parcel shelf, but am not sure if it will be tough enough for a dash panel.

Reason I ask is that I'm in the process of tidying up the interior of the Coupe and am thinking a suede/material covering over the vinyl will help hide where it's been trimmed for the rollcage, plus make it look a bit nicer.

Cheers Mik, I'll take a look at those links.

I've also just thought I might approach one of our automotive suppliers who trims some of the interior components for our Commodores and Statesmans and see if they'll do a private job for me for $$$.

if your going to cover the complete dash using push button lock surrounds (as was used in my old coupe) over the dimister holes looks neat.

i have some spotlight suede material on mine- iused the spray adhesive but it kept lifting so I got it stuck on by a trimmer- now its on there for ever.
my mates 8rs has a flocked dash and I can tell you how to do it but its near impossible to do we your first few times, but the results are amazing if done well.

Yeah i've done it a couple of times. Tried flocking with little success so i've stuck with the suede.

I disassembled the actual dash panel off the dash skeleton, then cleaned down the vinyl with wax and grease remover. I find using brushing on contact adhesive works best, but you have to be careful not to put too much on, or it will bleed through.

Its a fairly straight forward job and takes maybe 30-45mins to do. The tricky bit is working it around the complex concave on the passenger side of the centre vents. I found it would keep lifting if it was stretched too much, so i bent up a steel plate and clamped it in place while it dried.

nice paul- looks very good-

mine would stay down for a while and then lift, hence I went to the pro for some industrial glue- its now on there for ever

Nice job Paul . Looks really good.

I've tee'd up a contact through work to do mine. Just have to finish trimming it up to fit around the rollcage bars on the A-Pillars and she'll be right to go.

A mate priced up an industrial spec
flock gun to use in his special effects
business. Would have been great
but they cost a $thousands so no buy :(
