just say.... hurm...... it will just snap when you least expect it...

Why don't you just buy a VR4 engine...it has everything already on it, it is designed to be forced induction.
If you take the 'cheap' way out I can guarantee it will come back and bite you in the ass. Just buy a cheap VR4 engine (about $600) put in a Head Gasket and head studs and put it in the car.

have you got any ideas where one is in adelaide then? im sure city dismantlers have them. but overpriced is an undertsatement there.

I was just looking for an engine in adelaide and couldnt find one anywhere. It was a huge pain in the ass. City dismantlers dont have any neither do Adelaide Jap. I ended up buying one from canberra.

yeh exactly..
could i buy a new headgasket which is thicker than my original to lower the comp therefore it being safer for higher psi?

ggsr engines don't have oil squirters to keep the pistons cool, so you will more than likely melt a piston, good luck finding the parts thats all i can say, if you are going to change the afm you may aswell get an EVO one or a magna one (055/609), then you would need a chippable ecu so it can't be a dual board, which limits you to facelift japspec and aus spec or fully aftermarket which is going to make things more expensive.

have you done a compression test on your current motor to see what kind of condition it is in, it might not be in a state where it would handle a turbo.

if you are going to spend 1500-2000 on doing a turbo conversion to an N/A car, then you might aswell look at getting a motor that is already done and get it shipped...just because there is nothing in adelaide doesn't mean you can't get your hands on one, melbourne is only just round the corner and there are a few down there for sure.

you have to weigh up all the options spend 1500 on a car to get 5-6psi and not really enjoy it that much, or spend 1500 on a motor to put in the car, get 14-15psi and have a bit more fun

also something other people haven't mentioned, you WILL need a new front engine mount or at least get it filled with urethane to cope with the added weight etc

here's a VFAQ though so you can make up your own mind, there are alot of parts that people don't think about

Sounds like you know what you are doing and what you need.
So go and do it.

Keep us updated though as I think it will be a cool car.

yeh ive decided i will do it..
ill make a thread when i source all the parts and let use no how it all goes..
cheers for the help guys
Matt

oh and gvr40 im sure 5-6 psi will be more then enough in a front wheel and will be more then enough fun :p

5-6psi might be fun for a few weeks, but you'll get bored of it soon enough!

surely it can't cost too much to get a VR4 motor shipped from interstate.

it'd be much a much smarter conversion in the long run, giving you plenty of room to grow. just ask dre how nicely his vr4'd GSR went!

then ill have to turn it up :p
and blow it up
then work and save for a vr4 :p

but nah seriously
3 factors in this hobbie.
time.money.effort
i have one atm and its effort..
i just dont ahve the time or the money to go looking around australia for an engine which may cost me 2 grand plus all the other things i need.. even if i do blow this engine it only gives me a better excuse for a vr4.. :p
ill keep use posted how it goes..
Matt

Yeah its a weapon that thing!!

All you should do, is turbo your motor you have now, and when you find one- grab a VR4 block and wack that in with your N/A head and your 272 cams

For now, it should run fine, as long as you don't turn the boost up too high, and make sure it doesnt go pop.

DONT FORGET TO BUY A DATALOGGER.

yeh all fingers crossed. cause imnew to this turbo scene im sure i will be asking a few qeustions..
ill take pictures along the way, im just wanting to put that intercooler on, cos they look mad on ggsrs' lol
and i will keep an eye out for a vr4 block/engine..
but it would be just my luck that once i get all this stuff and get to work.. one will pop up :p

I have a spare VR4 bare block with 3 oil squirters, Crank, Cradle, good VR4 complete Head, Spare 14b (unknown cond)

1 burnt blue eagle rod
