Just noticed a little while ago, while the car is cold/cool, there is a reasonably loud, deepish ticking sound, that increases in frequency as the car revs. It sounds sort of like an exhaust leak, and sort of like a screwed bearing. It sounds like it's coming from the timing belt end of the engine, too.

It goes away as the engine heats up.

Is this the standard lifter noise?

Shouldn't be.. oil has been replaced about 100 km ago, but I suppose the car has been sitting...

Edit: Just watched the vid.. doesn't sound anything like that. I have heard noisy lifters in cars before... hmm I'll try to record the sound when I get home from TAFE...

edit again : Here's the vid... the end part is weird I know, I think I have an intake leak, gotta test that out.

Yeah but it doesn't sound like the normal "tick tick" of lifters, it's got that deep drone.. the way it's portrayed on the video is exactly what it sounds like.

It was definitely the leaky injector, the car is close to silent at idle since I have fixed the seals. It was hard to believe it was the injector until I pulled it out and saw just how screwed the rubber was, it was absolutely shot.

Hmm.. just got my exhaust fixed today.. and when I just went for a drive then I noticed the noise has returned.. bugger! So do the lifters really sound that noisy when they're hammered? I don't think reggie replaced them with 3g lifters, which means I have the stockies... are there any other bearings near the front of the engine that are prone to failure?

Haha it is at idle, my FIAV is just screwed... ok so I need to get the car tuned, is it going to be a problem dyno tuning it (ie hammering it etc) with screwed lifters?
