Whilst on the SEQ cruise this morning JETGSR had a slight cam gear failure.

Luckily it happened on a downhill stretch at Mt Nebo when he wasn't giving it heaps.
Hopefully there isn't too much internal damage!

It has obviously decided that his car would run better with remote cam gears rather than the traditional style.

This is what happens when your expensive cam gear decides to leave home!

fuck!

good reason NOT to buy AEM cam gears.

actually, JETGSR, if they were purchased new, you should be under some sort of warranty, in which case, if their failure has caused damage to your engine then arent AEM liable? Id be looking into that.

Hopefully everything is alright!

You would be one pissed off bandito.

I'm pretty sure the Cam gear company would have "Use at your own risk, company will accept no liability for losses + damages"

If not.. go for gold!

I say that because a friends *brand new* timing chain snapped on his gemi, sending his engine into confetti - Timing chain manufacturer were not held responsible.

shit

did that happen on the cruize 2day if so how did you get your car back home hope the i nternals are still in one piece dude :(

I see everyone likes the pics!

yes it was a little disappointing considering how well the car was going!

wouldn't you say Tim?

I will find out tomorrow how much damage, I dout AEM will do anything

but i should get new gears at least.?

I would like to thank Rob323 he helped me big time to get the beasty down off the hill, also to thank his wife for the trouble and sorry for the jobs that rob wasn't able to finish.(because of my misfortune)

Sorry to the other guys on the run, it was sort of cut short on you

but hey! Thats racin'

JETGSR

It was going great Troy!!

Little bugger sure pulled like a train till that little incident!

And why aren't you cooking Mexican food!!

I'm guessing that you wil now be feeding Rob for the rest of the year

cruise

Troy might have a standard 2 piece cam gear for sale soon, and he will probably throw in a custon 3 piece one for free (along with a slightly chewed up timing belt and a couple of valves).

I was actually about to purchase some AEM gears tomorrow.... :/

Change of plan eh :p

On another note, check for engine damage. And box the gears up and send them back to AEM for a refund. I wouldn't get a new set, that's just lame.

They'll appreciate you sending them back to them anyway because they can reverse engineer them to find out the cause and then hopefully make a better product.

But HOLY CRAP?

Any damage to the underside of your bonnet or anything external of the engine?

Just out of curiosity what cams and springs are you running?

Did they fail under normal valve train stresses or are they turning something special?

cam gears

Jetgsr will know for sure, but i'm pretty certain it is just standard evo 2 hardware up there.

Troy, sorry that I was not able to get you all the way home, bloody fat arse lancer needs to go on a diet (we are going to put some bump stops on that trailer to prevent the tyres rubbing on the guards, for next time we have to tow fat arse cars). Did the car get picked up and delivered ok?

I got home at 5:45pm to a lovely smiling wife and a roast dinner all ready to be served. Turned out she spent the arvo in the spa relaxing so I was off the hook (but the grass still needs mowing).

bad luck dude......

im sure AEM would just say they were in correctly installed, so there goes any compo claims!

Bit hard to prove that now.
I can't even imagine how you could "not" install them correctly, not even I could stuff that up! :D

Jetgsr, I wonder if anyone from the states has had similar problems, might be worth posting on some U.S. sites to get some feedback.
