I used to use v018 filter, but since no one around here stocks valvoline anymore and only sells ryco i'm forced to change. The ryco catalog is vague when it comes to early evos! It is either the z411 or the z142a? any deals?

thanks

Im thinking it's have to be the z142a mate, since thats a VR4 filter.

Z411's fit on 4g63s (same thread) but are a lot smaller..

Due to their smaller size, Z411's are generally used when they need to clear exhausts being in the way of the filter.

However, the correct filter for 4g63s is z142a

I know that when most ppl go to something like a 3 inch dump pipe, the filter doesnt clear the new exhaust, so they use the smaller one.

The z142a if its bigger would be better, id use it if it fits.

z79a z142a and z411 will al fit but they also have different flow and filtration properties and sizes

and id definetly say the oil filter relocation would be a great idea and z9 huge filtration and flow properties

if you look through the ryco catalogue go too the cross reference section and then find VO18 ive never actually liked valvoline ive seen them leak and or crack the casing or the threads being the wrong size

true
i mean the z411 is the the correct one for the 1.8 4g93t motor anyway... so i guess it wouldnt do any harm on the 2L...

but yeah the z142 is the correct one for 4g63 (if you can fit it with your dump pipe)

why do you need a skinnier oil filter for a 4g63?

z142a are the shortest of all the ones that can be fitted and z411 is the skiiniest one

i went through this with the ryco rep a year or so ago. the correct filter for a evo(early) engine is z411, the z79 and z142a were older style filters and as said previously there filtration and flow rates were not correct for the evo engine. but then late 1990's some time the z142a had a revamp to use on one of the hyundai engines and got updated with flow and filtration to a standard above the previous, and then is fine to use on evo engines. it does contain a larger amount of filter paper inside, but both will meet oem standards of mitsubishi.
i have always use the z142a being a fatter but shorter filer giving more room for dump pipe.
filter relocator is good idea to use a z9 filter also.
and after seeing some compairsons in filters in tests and just seeing them pulled apart, you cant go wrong with a ryco filter, just to prove the point he asked us to choose a filter size at random from our store, and then cut three different brands apart and there was much difference.

yer ill definetly use ryco ive seen the same tests as previously and its a rare occasion having a fault with their filters ive only ever seen 1 leak and ive seen plenty of competitor brands leak
