Who needs to build a motor these days???

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

The owner of the green one has still got it I think, he was turning it into more of a race car.

Before it was sold, the white one was on the way to Calder and dropped its rods on the hwy, that's what happens when its on the limiter in 5th! pmlol. Another stock engine went back in it. It was sold to someone who just used it as a daily driver. Last time I saw it was unloved and completely rundown :(

Hey I'm proud of him too.

I damn near died when I saw the power figures it put out... but then he pulled it all apart again? Did my head in :(

I've been waiting to see that car GO and I mean -really- GO for well, years. I think we could run a poll on that.

The motor had to come apart again, it had a cracked bore. sure another block coulda went back in but why not try for more!

Jeez lorrie, give the guy a break! He has poured tens of thousands of dollars into this car- not sure if you can appreciate that but sometimes it doesn't just all fall into place over night, especially when you are:

a) doing most of the work yourself

b) work full time

c) have a wife

d) have a mortgage

I'm proud of barry for sticking with his VR4- who cares how long it takes, at least he is still representing the mighty Galant!

Amen!

It's an absolute pain in the ass trying to build a car yourself around all the other things that you need to do in your life, esp if you're going for the level of perfection Baz is for his builds.

I don't match point 'C' exactly - but I do have a girlfriend who I like to spend time with so it's sorta the same in that it detracts from car time (but a car won't keep you warm at night... so these sacrifices need to be made).

IMO the reasoning goes to: more strict tollorances, combined with a greater understanding through the use of CAD and simulation software; lets engineers design motors that are strong in the right places, lightweight where possible, etc. Is all about efficiency :)

in the 80s, a 20w50 grade oil was normal oil to use, because larger oil galleries, and the tollorance between the rings and the bore. Now... 10w30... or other lighter grade oils be the norm, because things are built with better precision. Lighter engine materials being used now. Direct injected motors, diesels have common rail now, etc. One way to see the efficiency is to look at the cooling systems of newer cars. Theoretically anyways; more efficient motors generate less heat. More power they produce, less efficient typically though.

And i think once people start running large numbers through stock internals, they're not abiding by EPA guidelines, which are a massive restriction on these newer motors. Be interesting to find out who can pull what numbers and still obide by the restrictions.

That's how i see it anyways. :) be interested to know other opinions though.

a mate of mine lives next door to the owner of the green gsr and last i heard, this was going a year or so back, the guy was going nuts on the engine and is claiming 650 hp. he was going to get my mate to spray it orange but then decided to leave it alone and maintain the sleeper looks.

ill see if i can get another update..

yea the new f6 typhoons do like 12's out of the box..

The slightly older F6's werent no slouch either, think one of them is going to be the E3's replacement shortly :D

The out of the box performance is amazing on those things, no need for a loud exhaust or anything just a tune and hello 300 rwkw!
