Help Support 4GTuner:

good news matty! what kinda rebuild is it going to be? a stock one or forged? do you have to supply the forged items?

It's confirmed... the motor is getting built! :)

The car goes to Techsport on Monday

Thats good news matt!!!!! Imagine the full potential that this setup will produce??!!!!!

The rebuild will include Scat rods (courtesy of Jstyle) CP or JE pistons (don't know what compression ratio yet), Cometic head gasket, ARP fasteners, BC valve springs and retainers and hopefully around 25psi boost.

I have to supply to rods, valve springs and retainers, and also make a contribution to the re-build (apparently it's going to be 30% of the parts paid by me, Just Car will cover the rest)

Hopefully it'll make over 250kw at the wheels with the new build, we'll see I guess!

why scat ???

there are a million other better options i can think of, especially seeing the insurance company is paying ...

Insurance company isn't paying 'RSOL. I have to supply to rods... the existing rods aren't damaged, so they aren't going to replace them.

I also have to contribute to the rest of the parts that are going into the motor, ie. pistons, gaskets, bearings, etc.

They are covering all of the labour.

Great news matty!!!

Just make sure you tell techsport to use run in oil (or mineral oil).
They like to run in with synthetic oil which I don't believe is a great idea.

Apart from that, they will do a good job.

why's that baz?

im with baz, mineral oil allows the rings to bed in a bit better.

synthetic oil can cause the bores to glaze in some cases(not always)

ok, thanks guys :)

I'll speak to them about it

Has anyone had experience with Techsport's tuner... Melbourne Performance Centre?

you should ask harry about them, (s15eta)
and also jeff with the yellow r34..

they have some strong opinions about them

Yep there are a lot of FPV V8's that use a shit load of oil coz the bores are glazed and the rings don't seal properly from synthetic oil. If they had mineral oil run in them for the first 5,000kms or so they are fine.

yeh true and the quality is shithouse i have spoken to a few engine builders and they wont touch that stuff with a barge poll all the tolerances are out most rods aren't straight you get what you pay for i guess

but most people dont have $1500 to spend on a quality set of argo rods

You can get just as good (if not better) quality than Argo for less than $1500!

I paid around $900 for a set of Carrillo Pro-A's, landed. They're arguably the best connecting rod manufacturer in the world!
