i aint no mechanic i dont know if its pinging or anything i dont know wat to look for with regards to leaning etc so wat..wear do i take it so someone can tell wat... if anything is wrong with it.. as now im afraid im gunna blow the thing up by driving it hard

until you get it looked at, your cat is easy to find out if it's blocked or fallen apart, either take it into an exhaust shop or put a pressure gauge on it to find out how much back pressure it's causing.

Still good size to make good power with on a 2L.

@ 15psi and 7000rpm, u would know if it was pinging...

I would say as most have check the ecu.. basically anything to do with timing or ignition...

If its not leaning out that is...

My vr4 used to retard its self to protect its self from knock which wasnt really there...

check it out, you can run faster!

i changed the cat to a hi flow cat when i had it.

bought a new cat in about... 2004ish? about 3-4mths before i had sold the car.

Humm, they can still take a knock from a speed-bump ect & fall apart/cave-in......Or even clog up with a poor tune ie: VERY rich.
But if it's only under 2 years then it doesn't sound like it would be holding you back.
But if you heard that vaucme sound and it's not your cat, then it's the rest of your exhaust that is restricting. (Thats what that noise is)
You can hear it most when you flog the arse out of a car with the stock exhaust, even more so when it's turbo with a OEM exhaust still fitted.
The best place to hear it is behind the car, you wont hear it inside.

Then it might be best to get you car up on a Dyno to look at what AFR% it's running & have the timming looked at too, you dont want to lunch your engine.
 
yeh well just found out that its an N/A cat apparently onli good if its gutted the exaust is goin.. the flange off the turbo looks shit house, no flex pipe shit muffler its goin i actually doubt this is the exhaust u had on it tenji i reekon beej has done a shifty hahaha ahhh well nits all fun an games i guess

so i gues im lookin at about $1200 for a whole new gig then see how ahe goes...
 
thought cats were universal aswell aslong as its the size you want. should be a 3 inch cat.

tuffrice you want to sell the muffler off your car?

its a tanabe muffler and i know my friend who wants it =)
 
yeh for sure as soon as i can hahaha i hate it it looks crap...how bout a swap opr something coz i need something to replace it with
 
well its off a turbo car so its 3"

it has a flange to bolt onto 3" piping. friend is after something more stock looking.

but seeing as your changeing the exhaust system you can probably get a custom turbo back piping done. may even save you money.
 
why dont you try disconnecting the battery for a minute or so? That will reset any fault codes in the ECU that may be hindering your engine (maybe because a sensor has detected something wrong)

im not exactly sure how it works, but it may give you a better idea of whats going on. m

well i had a look at the ecu today with jstyle he thinks its out of an evo 3 or something maybe an rs because i can run 16 psi but its flat we believe its flat after about 4000 because it runs diff timings as the cams are different compared too the evo 3 or rs etc also the exhaust is crap so i got a new one off jon an now i need a dump pipe an all should be sweet but i needs a hell of a good tune is all so i hope ecu reset an same but we will see

as i got him to install the motor =)

i got the motor from Adelaidejap back in 04

Darren said it was in good condition along with the turbo.

Adeljap siad the motor had done 60,000kms

genuine evo 3 motor.

it was stock whilst i had it running 14psi.


as it was quick enough then.

a lot of ppl knows the car from when i owned it.

the car had enough power to fish tail off launch.

but i remember Beej having some probs with it and he got something done at Technik tuning before selling it.

I dunno what was done after i had the vehicle.
